Tokyo-NbS Action Award 2025: Your Chance to Make a Difference

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has announced the opening of applications for the second annual "Tokyo-NbS Action Award 2025." Aligned with the revised Tokyo Biodiversity Regional Strategy, which was updated in April 2023, this initiative aims to promote nature-based solutions (NbS) that effectively address various social challenges while supporting human well-being and biodiversity.

The award seeks to celebrate pioneering efforts by businesses and organizations that are making significant strides in implementing NbS initiatives. As part of an effort to expand participation, this year will feature two new award categories: the Large Corporation Division and the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Division.

What are Nature-Based Solutions?

Nature-based solutions refer to approaches that sustainably utilize the functions of nature to help mitigate challenges like climate change and natural disasters. These methods are designed to contribute simultaneously to both human happiness and biodiversity preservation, creating a win-win situation for society and the environment.

Eligibility and Application Details

Target Participants: The award is open to companies, local governments, research institutions, and specific non-profit organizations with a presence in Tokyo.

Relevant Initiatives: Successful applicants will demonstrate how their projects leverage ecosystem functions to advance human well-being and biodiversity in Tokyo.

Awards & Recognition

Both the Large Corporation Division and the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Division will grant a Grand Prize and an Excellence Award to one winner in each category. The achievements of the winners will be highlighted through a video produced by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which will be showcased on the Tokyo government website. Additionally, the awards ceremony will be streamed online, with recordings available on demand for later viewing.

• - Judging Period: November - December 2023 (initial judging will involve documentation review, followed by final presentations)
