Making a Difference: Civic Force Launches Year-End Crowdfunding Initiative for Disaster Relief

Civic Force's Year-End Crowdfunding for Disaster Relief

As the year comes to a close, Civic Force, a public interest incorporated association based in Shibuya, Tokyo, has officially launched a crowdfunding project aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness and response in Saga Prefecture. Leveraging the unique qualities of the hometown tax system, this initiative hopes to empower and support local NPOs operating within the region.

The Need for Disaster Preparedness

With an increase in natural disasters such as heavy rains and earthquakes, the urgency for effective disaster response systems is undeniable. Civic Force's initiative responds to recent national calamities, including a forest fire in Ofunato City, Iwate, and a series of severe storms impacting Kyushu. In light of a recent report from the government's Earthquake Research Committee predicting a 60% to 90% chance of a major earthquake in the Nankai Trough within the next 30 years, Civic Force is escalating efforts to prepare communities for such disasters.

How the Crowdfunding Works

The crowdfunding project uses the hometown tax system specifically targeted at donations for NPO support. Individuals can designate Civic Force as a recipient of their contributions, with 85% of the donated amount allocated to the organization. As with conventional hometown tax donations, contributors can claim tax deductions—after a 2,000 yen deduction from the total donation amount—allowing for a beneficial return on their contributions.

Objectives of the Project

The crowdfunding campaign is titled “Support Activities to Save Lives in Disaster Areas! Aerial Search and Rescue Team 'ARROWS' Phase 4”. The goal is set at 1 million yen, with a fundraising period from November 6, 2025, to February 1, 2026. The funds will be used for various critical purposes, including:
  • - Strengthening the personnel and organizational structure of the aerial search and rescue team
  • - Acquiring supplies and maintaining storage facilities
  • - Coordination training with administrative bodies and businesses for disaster preparedness

Civic Force emphasizes the importance of collaboration and preparation, as evidenced by their active participation in emergency humanitarian aid during significant disasters. This initiative aims to build a robust framework for disaster response that connects various community assets and resources.

Rewards for Contributors

To encourage donations, various rewards have been organized for contributors:
  • - Arita ware and special pottery products
  • - Local tea beverages and products from the region
  • - Sets of high-quality culinary items showcasing local flavors

These rewards not only add value but also promote the rich cultural heritage of the Saga region. Each reward serves as a token of appreciation for the vital contributions made towards disaster preparedness and community support.
