StarKist Commemorates 75 Years of Courage at Chosin Few Gala

StarKist Commemorates Korean War Heroes

On October 5, 2025, StarKist Co., based in Reston, VA, along with its parent company Dongwon from Seoul, South Korea, hosted a significant gala to honor the valor of the Korean War veterans, specifically those who fought in the historic Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. The event, known as the 75th Anniversary Chosin Few Gala, took place at the Hilton Arlington National Landing in Washington, D.C., as part of the esteemed National Chosin Few Reunion.

Edward Min, President and CEO of StarKist, expressed immense pride in commemorating these extraordinary servicemen and women. "On this 75th anniversary, we are humbled to honor the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and spirit of The Chosin Few. Because of their heroism, South Korea survived and flourished into the strong, democratic nation it is today, allowing families like mine to live in freedom. At StarKist, it is both our duty and our privilege to stand alongside the Korean War veterans in remembrance and gratitude. We remain committed to honoring their service and ensuring that their legacy will never be forgotten," he stated during the event.

StarKist's longstanding tradition of honoring these veterans spans over 15 years, as they participate in numerous initiatives and partnerships designed to express gratitude for their service. For the last four years, StarKist has partnered with The Chosin Few, a national organization dedicated to veterans who endured the brutal 17-day battle under harsh winter conditions. The annual reunion brings these decorated veterans together, uniting their families and loved ones, with the gala serving as a primary event that blends remembrance, recognition, and storytelling.

This year's gala featured an array of poignant moments, including opening remarks from StarKist leadership and a special address from Colonel Warren H. Wiedhahn, USMC (Ret) and Chairman/CEO of The Chosin Few. He, too, is a Korean War veteran, and his reflections on the significance of this anniversary resonated deeply with attendees. "The 75th anniversary of the Chosin Reservoir battle is a profound milestone for our organization. We are grateful for the steadfast support from StarKist and Dongwon, whose commitment ensures that the courage and sacrifice of The Chosin Few will continue to be honored and remembered for generations to come," Colonel Wiedhahn remarked.

Guests were treated to musical performances, which helped to create an atmosphere of celebration and remembrance, and were greeted by StarKist’s joyfully iconic mascot, Charlie The Tuna®, who delighted attendees and their families.

StarKist’s sponsorship of this gala is a clear demonstration of its mission to honor Korean War veterans and their families, recognizing the enduring legacies of resilience, sacrifice, and heroism that shaped both their lives and the world around us.
