Sunrider International Bolsters Healthcare Initiatives in Ghana
In an inspiring move, Sunrider International, a global leader in health and wellness, has stepped up its philanthropic efforts by renewing its partnership with Engage Now Africa (ENA). This initiative was announced on Giving Tuesday—an international day that emphasizes generosity and community support. After four fruitful years of working together, this recent collaboration aims to enhance healthcare services in Ghana, particularly within the Upper West Region.
The Atiyorum Community Health Planning and Services Compound
On December 3, 2024, it was revealed that Sunrider's latest donations have allowed for the completion of the Atiyorum Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) facility. This important structure is set to provide essential medical services to over 17,000 individuals across seven nearby communities. These services focus specifically on improving maternal and child health, treating various ailments, and generally promoting community welfare.
Jennifer Hogge Ellsworth, the Executive Director of ENA, emphasized the impact of the partnership. She noted, "Through our collaboration with Sunrider, ENA will transform maternal health in the Atiyorum community, ensuring mothers receive the care and support they deserve for healthier families and brighter futures."
Since joining forces in 2021, Sunrider has continually supported ENA's mission to invoke substantial change in African communities. Notably, Sunrider's contributions have also facilitated the establishment of the Wonber Maternal Health Center in Ethiopia, which has been providing vital healthcare to more than 30,000 women and children annually.
Upgrading Existing Facilities and Community Empowerment
Beyond funding new health infrastructure, Sunrider's contributions have been pivotal in renovating existing clinics. This includes the provision of modern medical equipment, alongside essential training sessions for healthcare staff. Such enhancements significantly improve both the quality and accessibility of healthcare services available to communities.
Moreover, Sunrider's support extends further into educational initiatives. The organization has funded Adult Literacy and Vocational Skills Training programs in Ghana, enabling individuals to learn vital skills in areas such as customer service, digital literacy, and vocational crafts. These programs create sustainable opportunities for personal and professional growth within communities.
Overcoming Challenges to Completion
The CHPS compound project has faced numerous challenges since its conceptualization by the Atiyorum community in 2001. Initial setbacks included financial hardships and structural complications which delayed its realization. However, with the latest influx of resources through Sunrider, the facility is now fully operational and includes features such as:
- - A delivery room
- - Child and female wards
- - An on-site residence for CHPS staff
- - A dispensary
- - An antenatal shelter for expectant mothers
- - Treatment rooms for various medical needs, including immunizations and wound care
This partnership not only addresses immediate healthcare needs but also aligns with the broader mission of enhancing quality of life across Africa. Sunny Beutler, the CEO of Sunrider International, expressed pride in their role: "Our collaboration with Engage Now Africa truly reflects our deep commitment to creating lasting change in communities that need it most. We are thrilled to have contributed to the completion of the Atiyorum Community Health Compound Facility."
