On October 17, 2026, at 14:00, the Kikkoman International Food Culture Research Center will host a special food culture seminar titled "The Culinary Wonders of Malaysia: Cultures Coexisting Together" at the KCC Hall in Kikkoman's Tokyo headquarters.
Malaysia, known for its diverse society, is a melting pot of cultures, offering a deep and rich culinary experience. This event promises attendees the chance to embark on a journey through Malaysia's vibrant flavors, facilitated by renowned food culture researcher and editor, Ms. Oto Furukawa. With her extensive experience living in Malaysia from 2005 to 2009, Ms. Furukawa will share insights into how the unique blend of cultural perspectives has shaped Malaysia's delectable food scene.
Participants at the event will be treated to a tasting of local favorites, including chicken curry and teh tarik (milk tea), allowing for an authentic taste of Malaysian culture. For those unable to join in person, a live stream via YouTube will be available, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to engage with this culinary journey. Registration will provide access to an exclusive URL, with options for on-demand viewing available until November 30, 2026. Active as an editor and writer, Oto Furukawa fell in love with Malaysia's rich food culture during her time there. Drawing on her experiences, she is dedicated to sharing the fascinating aspects of multicultural food through writing, presentations, and food events. Her notable works include "Local Favorite Dining in Malaysia," with her latest release, "Want to Eat, Want to Meet, Malaysia," scheduled for publication in mid-November 2026.
