Sony Electronics Unveils Crystal LED CAPRI: New Era of LED Displays for Virtual Production

Sony Electronics Expands LED Display Portfolio with CAPRI Series

Sony Electronics Inc. has announced the launch of its newest LED display series, the Crystal LED CAPRI, designed to meet the needs of virtual production and rental markets. With a focus on affordability and quality, the CAPRI series integrates advanced technology while maintaining high standards characteristic of Sony.

Enhancing Virtual Production Quality

The CAPRI series is engineered to achieve a remarkable brightness of 1,500 cd/m2 and features a 2.50mm LED pitch size. These specifications are especially significant in the context of virtual productions, where visual fidelity is paramount. To ensure smooth imagery, the displays support high refresh rates of up to 7,680Hz, drastically minimizing scanline artifacts. Additionally, with coverage exceeding 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, these screens promise lifelike color reproduction, essential for film and television applications.

Accompanying the technological enhancements, the CAPRI also offers anti-reflection capabilities to counteract unwanted glare from production lighting. This is a critical feature that fosters a more immersive viewing experience in various production environments.

Flexibility and Ease of Use

The CAPRI series is designed for versatility in installation, catering to the ever-changing needs of production setups. Its modular design allows for configurations including stacked, hung, and even curved installations. This adaptability is crucial for meeting unique spatial requirements on set.

Moreover, the models boast a tool-free lever locking mechanism for quick assembly and disassembly. This feature is especially beneficial for temporary installations, expediting the setup process and ensuring efficient workflow.

Seamless Integration with Industry Standards

Sony has ensured that the new CAPRI models are compatible with existing industry-standard controllers, specifically the Brompton Tessera SX40 and the Megapixel HELIOS. This streamlines operations for professionals already familiar with these interfaces, eliminating the need for additional training and minimizing downtime during production phases.

Maintenance Made Simple

A well-thought-out maintenance system is incorporated into the CAPRI series to support the creative processes of users. LED module blocks can be replaced quickly from the rear, accompanied by status indication lights that help identify which blocks require servicing. This level of user-centric design reflects Sony's understanding of the complexities involved in maintaining production equipment.

Positioning in the Market

Targeted at a diverse range of customers, from television and film creators to rental and staging professionals, the CAPRI series provides a cost-effective solution without compromising on the high picture quality that the Sony brand represents. It builds upon the strengths of the flagship Crystal LED VERONA series, enabling paired usage where the VERONA serves as the main wall while CAPRI can be used in supporting roles, such as ceiling installations.

Rich Ventura, VP of Professional Display Solutions at Sony Electronics, emphasized this goal of expanded access in the market saying, “With the announcement of CAPRI, Sony is furthering our commitment to the creation of Spatial Content, giving a wider range of users opportunities for flexibly showcasing images in high fidelity.”

Looking Ahead

Expected to hit the market this winter, the CAPRI series will make an appearance at the upcoming InfoComm 2025 event, taking place from June 11 to 13 in Orlando, Florida. Attendees will have the chance to experience the displays firsthand at Sony's booth 2001.

By integrating innovative technology, user-friendly features, and compatibility with existing tools, Sony Electronics continues to set the standard in the evolving landscape of virtual production. As the industry shifts towards more sophisticated visual experiences, the Crystal LED CAPRI series stands as a promising solution for professionals seeking both quality and versatility in their LED display needs.
