EY Issues ISO/IEC42001 Certification for AI Management System to iRet

In a significant move towards safe artificial intelligence (AI) management, Ernst & Young CertifyPoint B.V. (EY CertifyPoint), a third-party certification body based in the Netherlands, has issued the ISO/IEC42001 certification to iRet Corporation. This initiative, in collaboration with EY ShinNihon LLC based in Tokyo, is aimed at enabling companies to develop, utilize, and provide AI safely while ensuring adherence to international standards.

The rapid advancements in AI technology have brought forth a myriad of challenges, particularly in the realm of generative AI. Issues such as copyright and intellectual property violations, leaks of private and confidential information, misinformation, and the phenomenon of AI hallucinations pose significant risks that require careful management. The ISO/IEC42001 provides a framework that encompasses planning, execution, operational management, evaluation, and improvement of AI management systems, thereby facilitating both risk avoidance and risk management.

By establishing a management system in compliance with ISO/IEC42001 and achieving certification, organizations can ensure a more secure and reliable utilization of AI technologies. iRet has been at the forefront of such initiatives, offering a comprehensive suite of services ranging from system and application development to graphic and UI/UX design, as well as infrastructure setup and operation. The recent certification has further strengthened iRet's commitment to developing AI-driven services, with its recent project in March showcasing a generative AI-powered tool designed for help desk teams, enhancing customer support data search capabilities.

Founded in 2002, EY CertifyPoint has been conducting ISO certification audits in multiple languages across various countries. With dedicated assessment support for Japanese companies through EY ShinNihon, which leverages its specialized knowledge in financial matters, EY CertifyPoint plays a pivotal role in bridging gaps in the compliance process. EY ShinNihon also focuses on developing and utilizing AI auditing tools that align with the principles of responsible AI, which encompasses accountability, data protection, reliability, transparency, and explainability.

Shunya Hiroyama, the head of iRet's Internal Control Promotion Office and deputy head of the Cloud Integration Business Division, stated, "With EY's support, we were able to construct an AI management system based on our existing framework and achieve ISO/IEC42001 certification. As AI continues to evolve and permeate various sectors, finding effective governance solutions was a priority. This standard serves as an invaluable guideline. With our newly established AI management system, we intend to further promote the utilization of AI, contributing significantly to our clients' businesses."

Izumi Umekawa, a partner and deputy head of the Technology Risk division at EY ShinNihon, commented, "Establishing a robust management system for the utilization of AI is not only essential for businesses like iRet but also a critical step in fulfilling the societal responsibilities that accompany AI technologies. EY ShinNihon will continue to support the implementation of AI management systems across enterprises and work towards realizing a society that effectively utilizes AI through the expansion of ISO/IEC42001 compliant organizations."
