Carnival Corporation Launches Surplus Meal Donation Initiative in The Bahamas
In celebration of the first anniversary of Celebration Key located on Grand Bahama Island, Carnival Corporation (NYSE: CCL), recognized as the largest cruise operator worldwide, has expanded its surplus meal donation program into The Bahamas. This new initiative emphasizes the company’s ongoing commitment to making a positive impact in local communities while addressing the critical issue of food waste.
Carnival's surplus meal donation program is part of its broader strategy, dubbed 'Less Left Over,' aimed at reducing food waste across its fleet. The inaugural donation in The Bahamas involved over 318 pounds of prepared yet unserved meals from the Carnival Freedom and Carnival Conquest. These meals were carefully collected and promptly chilled before being transferred ashore under strict food safety protocols. The beneficiaries include the Grand Bahama Children's Home and the Urban Renewal Authority, who will ensure these meals reach residents in need.
Marie McKenzie, Senior Vice President of Government and Destination Affairs, expressed her enthusiasm regarding this expansion, highlighting the strength of the partnerships forged throughout the Caribbean. She emphasized the importance of connecting the abundant resources aboard their ships with the concrete needs within island communities, fostering a reliable system to deliver high-quality surplus meals to those who can benefit from them.
Minister for Grand Bahama, The Honourable Ginger Moxey, welcomed the initiative as a significant step towards addressing community needs practically and effectively. She commended Carnival Corporation's efforts to support the island's residents, stating that such partnerships create meaningful opportunities for communities.
Beyond its destinations, Carnival Corporation supports the Bahamian community through diverse initiatives, including ship donations and volunteer efforts. Since late 2025, the company has conducted over 20 ship donations across Nassau, Grand Bahama, and Eleuthera. These efforts have redirected valuable items including furniture, clothing, and household goods to local families, schools, and charities, benefiting a wide range of organizations that cater to essential community services.
The surplus meal donation program stands as a crucial part of Carnival Corporation's mission to minimize food waste while promoting sustainability and community support. Its carefully orchestrated onboard processes facilitate the safe and effective redistribution of these meals, creating a win-win scenario for both the environment and local residents in need. With a growing presence in 20 ports worldwide, the program continues to evolve, addressing food insecurity in port cities frequented by Carnival ships.
The launch in The Bahamas is merely the latest chapter in Carnival Corporation’s journey toward robust community engagement. Notably, recent expansions also include operations in Roatan, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic. By the end of 2025, the program had successfully delivered over 320,000 meal portions globally, resonating with the company’s vision of transforming surplus food into a lifeline for those in need.
As Carnival Corporation continues to innovate and expand its outreach efforts, the focus remains steadfast on delivering value and building relationships within the community while promoting sustainability across its operations. This initiative not only reflects the company’s dedication to responsible tourism but also strengthens its ties to the beautiful islands of The Bahamas, enhancing their ongoing relationship with the local populace through mutual respect and support.
