Huawei Unveils Next-Generation FAN Solution to Transform ISPs

During the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on March 6, 2026, Huawei introduced its latest innovation, the Next Generation FAN solution. This new offering is designed to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and all-optical technologies, poised to revolutionize how Internet Service Providers (ISPs) operate in an increasingly smart world.

The Changing Landscape of ISPs

At the event, York Yue, Vice President of Huawei and CEO of the ISP Media sector, emphasized the critical shift that AI is bringing to the ISP landscape. By 2025, this technology will transition from theoretical implementations to widespread usage, fundamentally altering how ISPs manage networks and offer services. He mentioned that internal automation and efficiency through AI will enhance operational performance, while external benefits include higher quality B2B services and innovative monetization strategies.

Revolutionary Features of the FAN Solution

The Next Generation FAN solution addresses the growing demands of modern smart homes, which incorporate advanced technologies like cloud gaming, 8K Ultra High Definition video streaming, and virtual meetings. These applications require robust and reliable broadband connections capable of supporting high speeds and low latency.

Huawei’s FAN solution employs a coordinated architecture involving devices, edge, and cloud connections, which collectively provide a comprehensive service system. This system includes intelligent planning, seamless connectivity, and efficient operation and maintenance processes aimed specifically at improving user experiences for ISPs.

To facilitate home connectivity, the FAN solution utilizes Huawei’s OptiXstar EG-series Optical Network Terminals (ONTs), which boast three key intelligent features:

1. Intelligent Connectivity: This function allows for automatic switching between frequency bands, facilitating Wi-Fi 7 speeds of over 2,000 Mbps, ensuring reliable coverage throughout households for demanding applications.

2. Intelligent Services: This feature leverages AI algorithms to accurately assess indoor conditions, enhancing home security and overall service quality.

3. Intelligent Maintenance and Operations: The self-diagnostic and self-optimizing capabilities enable devices to automatically detect and resolve issues, ensuring smooth network performance.

New Possibilities for Home Services

In terms of home services, the Next Generation FAN solution employs MA5800T-series Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) with AI-driven traffic management systems. These terminals provide dedicated network pathways for various smart services, tailored by specific Service Level Agreement (SLA) guarantees. This level of customization ensures reliable performance for health, entertainment, and virtual conferencing applications.

The FAN solution not only enhances the smart home experience across various scenarios but also equips ISPs to stand out in a competitive market, driving customer loyalty and overall business value.

The Future of ISPs with AI Integration

With AI becoming a cornerstone of modern telecommunication infrastructure, its integration into networks signifies a remarkable turning point for industrial progress. As noted by Huang Dachuan, Chief Technology Officer of Huawei’s ICT Marketing and Solution Sales, the introduction of AI terminals by 2030 will greatly contribute to operational efficiency and cost reduction for businesses.

Huawei has launched an innovative ISP network architecture designed to foster smart transformations. This framework integrates AI-powered cloud data centers, optical access, and IP transport technologies through mechanisms like Data Center Optical Cross-Connect (DC-OXC) and Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6).

This forward-thinking architecture enables applications ranging from family healthcare solutions to smart operations and maintenance, assisting enterprises in achieving an intelligent service transformation.

Huawei’s commitment to enhancing ISP capabilities is evident, having served over 8,000 ISPs across more than 120 countries. The company plans to further drive AI and network integration, collaborating with global partners to expedite smart upgrades of both residential and enterprise broadband networks. The goal remains clear: to establish a robust digital framework that can support an intelligent future across all sectors.
