Exciting TEDx Okayama University Event 'BRICKS' Set to Inspire Local Community

On April 20, 2025, Okayama University will host its first TEDx event, 'TEDx Okayama University,' at the Tsushima Campus' 50th Anniversary Hall. Organized by a dedicated committee formed by students from the Global Discovery Program, this TED Talks event will bring together local speakers and engage a limited audience of 100 attendees. The aim of the event is to spread valuable ideas globally through thought-provoking presentations.

Seven speakers with connections to Okayama will take the stage. Among them will be John Rucynski, Associate Professor at Okayama University's Institute for Promotion of Education and Campus Life; Takafumi Terasawa, Professor at the Graduate School of Education; and Ken Takahashi, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry and Medicine. They will share their insights alongside notable figures such as Toshiaki Matsuda, President of Ryobi Holdings; Hideo Fukutake, Chairman of Benesse Holdings; and Ai Taguchi, President of MAAHA Corp. Additionally, two student speakers who successfully passed the preliminary competition will take part: Yume Watanabe, a second-year student in the Graduate School of Education, and Mika Makoshi, a fourth-year student at Notre Dame Seishin University.

During this event, speakers will share their experiences and knowledge in their respective fields, hoping to inspire participants and provide fresh perspectives on life. A side event during lunch will facilitate networking between speakers and the audience, allowing for meaningful connections and discussions. The event also hosts booths from sponsoring companies and food trucks, offering various services and delicious meals to attendees.

The Global Discovery Program will continue to support students in their proactive and international endeavors, reinforcing Okayama University’s commitment to being a core institution for unique research in the region. This event is not only expected to inspire participants with innovative ideas but also strengthen community ties through shared knowledge and dialogue.

The schedule of the event will start with registration at 10:00 AM, followed by side events, the hall opening, and presentations starting at 11:00 AM, concluding with an after-party from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.
