Nel ASA Secures Third Order for Advanced PEM Solutions from H2 Energy

Nel ASA's New Achievement in the Hydrogen Sector

Nel Hydrogen US, a subsidiary of Nel ASA, has recently secured its third significant purchase order from H2 Energy for one MC500, a state-of-the-art containerized 2.5 MW PEM electrolyser. This order arrives as part of an initiative to advance hydrogen production capabilities within the Swiss energy landscape. More specifically, the electrolyser will be delivered to the Verein für Abfallentsorgung (VfA) in Buchs, Switzerland.

Developing a Green Hydrogen Ecosystem

The project aims to create a sustainable hydrogen production and refueling facility for VfA, whose mission is to integrate hydrogen within the broader Swiss green energy ecosystem. This strategic facility is expected to utilize local electricity sources to generate hydrogen, which will be primarily used for VfA's waste collection trucks, among other industrial applications.

Rolf Huber, founder and Chairman of H2 Energy, expressed great satisfaction with the ongoing partnership: "H2 Energy has collaborated closely with Nel since 2016, beginning with a C30 PEM electrolyser that helped establish a robust ecosystem focused on heavy-duty mobility. To date, we've operated an MC400 PEM electrolyser for over 30,000 hours and our joint initiative has achieved myriad successes. This new project marks a critical milestone in our ongoing objectives to enhance the Swiss Green Hydrogen Ecosystem."

Expanding Hydrogen Infrastructure

The significance of this project cannot be understated. It builds on H2 Energy's previous ventures into the hydrogen sector, including their installation of 18 refueling stations that support a fleet of heavy-duty fuel cell trucks, which have accumulated over 14 million kilometers of usage. The increasing capabilities of hydrogen transportation technology underscore the urgent need for greener mobility solutions within Switzerland and beyond.

Todd Cartwright, Chief Commercial Officer at Nel, emphasized the company’s commitment to the hydrogen revolution: "We view this project as an opportunity not only to support H2 Energy and VfA Buchs but to demonstrate our capability in creating advanced hydrogen technology deployments. The backing of H2 Energy and its valid track record shows how effective partnerships can lead to meaningful contributions in decarbonizing various sectors."

Conclusion

With the marketplace shifting towards sustainable energy solutions, Nel ASA's achievements in securing these orders demonstrate a strong commitment to innovative technologies that foster a cleaner future. As the demand for green hydrogen surges globally, this recent development by Nel ASA can be perceived as a significant step towards a sustainable energy future, where hydrogen stands as a key player in achieving low-emission goals. The synergy between Nel, H2 Energy, and VfA Buchs paves the way for a future where clean hydrogen fuel becomes an integral part of everyday life in Switzerland and around the world.
