Minnesota Celebrates Generosity with Annual Give to the Max Day This November
Minnesota's Celebration of Generosity
On November 20, Minnesota will witness the return of its largest annual giving holiday, Give to the Max Day. Organized by GiveMN, this initiative gathers tens of thousands of generous individuals to contribute towards thousands of local nonprofits and schools. Since its inception in 2009, Give to the Max has successfully raised over $430 million for more than 14,000 organizations across the state. This showcases the tremendous collective power of community generosity.
The Impact of Giving
Last year alone, the campaign saw over $37 million raised from thousands of donors directed towards more than 6,000 nonprofits and schools addressing urgent community needs. These organizations play a crucial role in tackling various issues, from food insecurity and mental health services to enriching community programs like youth sports and the arts.
Jenna Ray, the CEO and executive director of GiveMN, emphasizes, "This day reminds us that generosity is one of Minnesota's greatest strengths. When we give together, we're not just funding nonprofits; we're investing in the solutions and the futures we want for our communities. This commitment fortifies Minnesota and showcases the best of who we are."
How to Participate
Donors interested in joining the initiative can visit GiveMN.org. The site features extensive tools for discovering and supporting numerous causes, making it easy to find organizations by name, keyword, location, or category. The platform particularly highlights BIPOC and LGBTQIA+-led organizations, which frequently receive less funding than others.
Giving began early this year on November 1, with the campaign continuing through the official Give to the Max Day. Notably, daily prize grants are awarded during the early giving phase, with donations entered into a randomized golden ticket drawing every 15 minutes on the main day, further incentivizing contributions with additional sums ranging from $500 to $10,000.
A Minnesota Tradition
The tradition of Give to the Max Day in Minnesota is cherished and continues to thrive even in the face of declining national charitable giving trends.
Despite the majority of donations being less than $100, their cumulative impact is significant. Over 730,000 donors have participated in the initiative since its beginning, providing crucial support to rural food shelves, mental health services, local theaters, and schools in various communities.
This year’s campaign has collected generous backing from organizations like the Bush Foundation, Saint Paul Minnesota Foundation, and various other Minnesota Initiative Foundations and Wealth Management Solutions. GiveMN.org operates as a continuous hub for generosity, allowing donors to set up monthly gifts, create fundraisers, and maintain records of their giving history.
