DZYNE Technologies Lands Major AFRL Contract to Advance ULTRA Turbo Aircraft with Multi-Mission Capabilities

DZYNE Technologies Secures Groundbreaking AFRL Contract

DZYNE Technologies, a pioneering force in defense technology, recently announced a major contract award from the United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). This multi-million-dollar partnership will focus on the development of three ULTRA Turbo Aircraft, which are categorized as Uncrewed Long-endurance Tactical Reconnaissance Aircraft (ULTRA).

A Leap Forward in Group-5 ISR Capabilities

The contract represents a pivotal milestone for DZYNE as it transitions the ULTRA platform into a program of record, solidifying its role in providing next-generation Group-5 capabilities. This announcement comes on the heels of ULTRA's successful inaugural flight equipped with a turbocharged engine, which exceeded expectations by demonstrating impressive speed and power at altitudes exceeding 18,000 feet.

With over 70 hours of operational endurance and upgraded satellite communications systems, the ULTRA Turbo is tailored to meet complex and demanding mission requirements. Ed Smetak, DZYNE's Executive Vice President of Airborne Technologies, emphasized, "ULTRA delivers more than altitude; it delivers dominance."

Speed, Endurance, and Flexibility

The ULTRA Turbo is designed to redefine how Group-5 systems function in both government and commercial sectors. It aims to provide operators with strategic reach at a tactical cost, making it a cost-effective solution for various missions. Key features include:
  • - Endurance: Capable of flying for up to three days, enabling sustained operations without the need for frequent redeployment.
  • - High-altitude Operations: Designed to operate at altitudes above 18,000 feet, making it ideal for diverse scenarios such as reconnaissance and surveillance.
  • - Payload Capacity: Able to carry over 450 pounds of diverse payloads, including advanced surveillance and communication technologies.

The flexibility of the ULTRA Turbo extends across multiple mission types. Whether it’s military intelligence, public safety monitoring, or commercial applications such as agricultural inspection, the aircraft is equipped to handle it all. This versatility translates into significant advantages, as noted by Paul Litke, AFRL/RSC Director, who stated, "Its endurance and payload flexibility provide the Air Force with unique capabilities to explore next-generation ISR operations at a fraction of the cost of legacy systems."

Meeting Demand Through Innovation

To enhance production capabilities in response to increasing demand, DZYNE has established a new 125,000-square-foot facility in Irvine, California. This facility consolidates UAS engineering, research, and manufacturing, promoting efficiency and accelerating the delivery of cutting-edge defense solutions.

DZYNE Technologies is committed to delivering mission-focused technologies that emphasize speed, agility, and effective scalability. The ULTRA family of Long Endurance UAS stands as a testament to this commitment, representing the forefront of innovative and cost-effective defense systems.
