Content Data Marketing Chooses Authlete for Uniikey
The company Authlete, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has successfully partnered with Content Data Marketing (CDM), another Tokyo-based firm, to integrate their OAuth and OpenID Connect (OIDC) implementation service, Authlete, into CDM's innovative CIAM solution, Uniikey. This integration marks a significant milestone in enhancing the capabilities of Uniikey, which was originally launched in 2020 as a SaaS-based integrated identity management system.
About Uniikey and CDM
Founded as a joint venture among Kodansha, TOPPAN, and CARTA COMMUNICATIONS, Content Data Marketing has developed Uniikey to support multiple services and manage customer identities efficiently. With its multi-tenant design, Uniikey enables service providers to establish an integrated ID platform, facilitating the unified management of membership information and the implementation of Single Sign-On (SSO). Additionally, Uniikey offers advanced features that support business development through content monetization and marketing assistance, making it an ideal solution for enterprises catering millions of users across various services, including e-commerce, apps, and proprietary media.
The Challenge Before Authlete Integration
Since its initial release in 2020, Uniikey relied on external vendors to manage customer data. However, as the usage of Uniikey expanded, limitations from relying on external infrastructures became a significant challenge. Key issues included escalating operational costs, meeting performance requirements, and a restricted ability to customize the platform. Specifically, every time a customer wanted to add a member attribute, the code required modification, highlighting the inefficiency of responding flexibly to user needs.
To address these constraints, CDM decided to rebuild Uniikey internally, focusing on cost control, scalability, and enhancing the platform's flexibility to swiftly adapt to customer demands. CDM aimed to concentrate on the core design and development of the application itself while seeking solutions for authentication and authorization functionalities from Authlete, Keycloak, or Amazon Cognito.
In evaluating these options, CDM found that Keycloak raised concerns regarding management and operational burden, while Amazon Cognito had processing quota limitations. Ultimately, CDM selected Authlete as it met their functional requirements and allowed for a seamless transition to a SaaS model for OAuth/OIDC implementation, with room for future expansion.
Transitioning OAuth/OIDC Processing to Authlete
The integration of Authlete into the new version of Uniikey commenced in December 2024, and it has since been adopted by numerous projects, including the viewer member service foundation of Tokyo Metropolitan Television. Furthermore, after the renewal of Uniikey, Kodansha launched the
