Adler Aphasia Center's Annual Gala: A Night for Awareness
In recognition of Aphasia Awareness Month, the Adler Aphasia Center is gearing up for its Annual Gala, set to take place on June 10 at the Seasons in Washington Township. This event will not only serve as a fundraiser but also as a meaningful opportunity to bring attention to the challenges faced by individuals affected by aphasia, a language disorder impacting over 2 million people in the U.S.
Understanding Aphasia
Aphasia is often a consequence of a stroke, affecting a person's ability to communicate. Those living with this condition may experience difficulties in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing. The goal of Aphasia Awareness Month, observed in June, is to promote understanding and resources for both those with aphasia and their families.
Celebrating Community Champions
The Gala will honor two dedicated individuals: Hilary Eth, a long-time volunteer and supporter at the Center, and Linda Miele, who has been an advocate for the cause since 2011. Their commitment exemplifies the mission of the Adler Aphasia Center to enhance the lives of individuals with aphasia through community, support, and education.
Emceed by Emmy-award winning television anchor Steve Adubato, the evening promises to be filled with heartfelt stories and an atmosphere of hope and resilience. Adubato is known for his insightful interviews with political leaders, entrepreneurs, and artists, making him an ideal host for this important event.
Role of the Adler Aphasia Center
Founded in 2003, the Adler Aphasia Center has built a community that connects members, caregivers, and volunteers through awareness and support. Their aim is to address and meet the evolving needs of those affected by aphasia with innovative programs and services. In 2025, the Center anticipates serving over 10,000 individuals from 18 of New Jersey's 21 counties through various training programs and partnerships.
Naomi Gewirtz, MSW, the President and CEO of the Adler Aphasia Center, emphasizes the critical need for financial support to continue helping members regain their communication and social connections, saying, "It's never been more critical to receive financial support from donors. We're excited to recognize the incredible contributions made by our honorees for the benefit of our community."
Sponsorship and Community Support
The success of the Gala is powered by the generosity of community partners and sponsors such as the Kaplan Foundation, Valley National Bank Foundation, and Columbia Bank Foundation, among others. Their support ensures that the Center can continue providing essential services to those in need.
