Vantage Foundation Collaborates with Grab Indonesia to Empower Women Drivers
Empowering Women through the Wiramudi Grab Program
On December 19, 2024, Vantage Foundation proudly announced their partnership with Grab Indonesia to support the Wiramudi Grab program, an initiative launched in April 2024 aimed at empowering women across Indonesia. This program addresses the unique challenges that women face in the workforce, particularly the difficulty of balancing demanding work hours with family responsibilities.
The central theme of the Wiramudi Grab campaign is "Progress Without Compromise," reinforcing the idea that women should not have to choose between their careers, families, and education. For those women who become Grab partner drivers, the program offers flexibility allowing them to set their own working hours, competitive earnings, and access to a variety of benefits.
The partnership between Vantage Foundation and Grab Indonesia has facilitated numerous women in joining the Grab platform by helping them overcome significant barriers, such as the lack of capital and required driving equipment. Participants in the program receive essential resources and financial support to initiate their journey as Grab partner drivers.
A survey conducted by Grab Indonesia found that nearly half of the women view access to capital and equipment as the biggest hurdle to entering the platform. In addressing these challenges, the partnership has enabled women to gain financial independence while still attending to their family responsibilities. Since the partnership commenced in November 2024, over a thousand new women have joined the platform, and many existing female drivers have taken advantage of increased capital to continue earning.
Steven Xie, Executive Director of the Vantage Foundation, commented, "Through this partnership, we are not only equipping women with the tools they need for success but also creating a cascading effect of positive change. We are proud to contribute to a campaign that advocates for progress and empowers women to advance without compromise."
Real-life impact stories reveal the program's effectiveness. A single mother from Bali shared how daily electric bike rentals from Grab help her focus on earning without worrying about vehicle costs. Similarly, a driver from Makassar related how working for Grab enabled her to financially support her family after her husband suffered a stroke. These narratives underscore the meaningful contribution of the Wiramudi Grab program toward enhancing women's empowerment and improving their situations.
Grab is committed to supporting its partner drivers not just financially but also by providing a broad spectrum of safety features, including a "Preferred Passenger - Woman" function that allows female drivers to prioritize female passengers in the app. Furthermore, the company supports its partner drivers through various programs offering training, security protocols, and vehicle maintenance discounts.
Rivana Mezaya, Director of Digital and Sustainability at Grab Indonesia, stated, "As part of our mission, economic support for disadvantaged groups such as women and people with disabilities is crucial. By collaborating with Vantage Foundation, we have successfully removed significant obstacles and provided women with capital that creates income opportunities for themselves and their families. Together, we are fostering an inclusive community from which women can benefit both at home and in the workplace."
The Wiramudi Grab program, which spans 18 cities across Indonesia, allows women not only to earn money as partner drivers for Grab but also facilitates further growth on the platform.
