Harbinger Launches Production of Electric Vehicles
Harbinger, a prominent name in the medium-duty electric vehicle sector, recently celebrated a significant achievement by announcing the official start of production (SOP) for its American-made electric vehicles. This milestone comes just four years after the company was founded in February 2021, showcasing the rapid progress the team has made in bringing these innovative vehicles to the market.
As of now, Harbinger has successfully manufactured more than
100 units aimed at various applications, including electric trucks and motorhomes. Their first customers include notable companies like
THOR Industries, the world's largest manufacturer of recreational vehicles, and
ETHERO Truck + Energy, among others.
The company's Co-founder and CEO,
John Harris, expressed pride in the speed and skill with which Harbinger's team has moved to production. He stated, "Completing production of 100 chassis is an important achievement for Harbinger... we are producing vehicles at a volume and scale that is truly impactful for our customers and the industry."
Harbinger's electric vehicle platform, known as a
stripped chassis, is specifically designed for medium-duty vehicles. This includes a variety of applications such as walk-in vans, box trucks, delivery vans, and emergency response vehicles. Each chassis integrates all major vehicle systems such as the electric drivetrain and high-voltage battery system, marking a comprehensive solution tailored for the industry's needs.
Interestingly, Harbinger stands out as the sole truck manufacturer capable of building its electric drivetrain systems in-house, which significantly lowers production costs while ensuring higher quality for their electric vehicles. Once the chassis are completed, customers typically collaborate with third parties to customize the chassis with specialized bodies, which is a standard practice in the medium-duty vehicle sector.
Gilbert Passin, the Chief Production Officer at Harbinger, emphasized the strategic effort in establishing a scalable production foundation. Drawing from extensive experience with other EV manufacturers, the team adopted best practices to streamline production processes and avoid past inefficiencies.
Recent vehicle testing conducted in Arizona and New Zealand demonstrated the company's commitment to quality and performance. Moreover, Harbinger has announced an impressive order book consisting of
4,690 vehicle orders, valued at about
$500 million, alongside a
$100 million Series B funding round aimed at increasing production capacity to meet growing demand.
As part of its expansion plan, Harbinger anticipates hiring an additional
100 employees in 2025 to further bolster its manufacturing capabilities.
Harbinger's mission is clear: to revolutionize an industry that has long awaited innovation. With a team rich in expertise in EV technology, batteries, and drivetrains, Harbinger is paving the way for its first-of-its-kind electric platform, which comes at a competitive price point equal to that of traditional diesel vehicles.
