Ferrero Group Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of Bold Snacks in Brazil
In a significant move for the global snack food market, the Ferrero Group has formally announced its acquisition of Bold Snacks, a prominent Brazilian manufacturer specializing in protein snacks. Established in 2018, Bold Snacks has quickly gained recognition for its innovative approach and impressive growth, largely driven by its digital marketing strategies and a product range that includes an array of protein bars.
The acquisition marks Ferrero's first venture into the rapidly expanding better-for-you snack segment in South America. Daniel Martinez Carretero, CFO of Ferrero Group, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Bold Snacks into the Ferrero family. This brand stands out in Brazil and will enhance our footprint in this category while aiding our strategic portfolio development across key geographic areas."
A key aspect of the deal involves the takeover of Bold Snacks' facility in Divinópolis, Minas Gerais, which includes around 300 employees who will transition to become part of Ferrero Brasil. Gabriel Ferreira, the founder and CEO of Bold Snacks, remarked on the exciting opportunity that joining forces with a global leader in the food industry presents for the company and its employees. He stated, "Being part of Ferrero is a fantastic opportunity for our business and team. The recognition from a globally recognized company with a strong track record of building iconic brands will allow us to accelerate our growth and make Bold Snacks accessible to more consumers than ever."
This acquisition strategically aligns with Ferrero's commitment to expanding its portfolio of better-for-you brands, which already includes popular European offerings like Eat Natural and FULFIL, as well as Power Crunch in North America. Currently, Ferrero and its subsidiary Dori Alimentos, owned by Ferrara, employ approximately 4,500 workers across five factories and three offices in Brazil.
The transaction is expected to conclude in the coming months, pending standard closing conditions, reinforcing Ferrero's position in the dynamic snack market fueled by changing consumer preferences toward healthier options.
The Ferrero Group has established itself as a global leader in the confectionery sector, renowned for its flagship products such as Nutella®, Kinder®, Ferrero Rocher®, and Tic Tac®, along with various regional favorites. Since its founding in Alba, Italy, in 1946, Ferrero has been a family-run business for three generations, boasting a workforce of 50,000 and a presence in over 170 countries. Ferrero is deeply rooted in its legacy while continuously pursuing innovation across established lines and new segments, including ice cream, biscuits, baked goods, breakfast cereals, and better-for-you solutions.
Guided by a long-term vision, Ferrero remains focused on sustainable and responsible growth, aiming to strengthen its position in emerging segments while adhering to its core values of excellence and care. As the company integrates Bold Snacks into its operations, it anticipates not only enhancing its product offerings in Brazil but also setting the stage for future growth in the health-conscious snack space.
