One Brooklyn Health Appoints New CEO and President to Enhance Healthcare Leadership

One Brooklyn Health Strengthens Leadership with New Appointments

On May 8, 2025, One Brooklyn Health announced the appointments of Dr. Sandra Scott as Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Arthur Gianelli as President and Chief Transformation Officer. These changes come as the Board of Trustees has been seeking to bolster the leadership structure of the healthcare network, aiming for improved patient care and health equity in Brooklyn.

Dr. Sandra Scott, who has been acting as the Interim CEO since January 2024, officially takes on the permanent role after a thorough national search. Her extensive experience in healthcare management, especially within the safety-net hospitals of Brooklyn, prepares her well to lead OBH into its next chapter. With over 7,000 staff members under her guidance, Dr. Scott aims to enhance the hospital network's strategic leadership, financial performance, and overall service delivery to the community.

Under her stewardship, Dr. Scott is committed to ensuring that the healthcare services provided uphold the values of equity and access, especially for the underserved populations in Brooklyn. She stated, “I am honored and excited to serve as the new CEO of One Brooklyn Health - an institution that is so important to me and vital to the communities we serve.” Her vision includes continuing to address public health disparities and focusing on health equity issues for vulnerable demographics, especially Black women's health concerns.

Dr. Scott’s previous accomplishments include being the first woman and person of color to lead the Brookdale Hospital Center, where she served as Executive Director. With a robust history in emergency medicine and health administration, she is keen on leveraging her experience to drive One Brooklyn Health's mission forward.

In conjunction with Dr. Scott’s appointment, Mr. Arthur Gianelli joins the leadership team, bringing a wealth of experience from Mount Sinai Health System, where he served as Chief Transformation Officer and President of Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital. With over 25 years in senior healthcare roles, Mr. Gianelli will oversee operational management and cultural changes within OBH. His responsibilities will include ensuring the health system improves its service accessibility and efficiency, a crucial need for the communities it serves.

Mr. Gianelli expressed his commitment to his new role, stating: “I am honored to serve as the new President and Chief Transformation Officer and will work day-to-day with unwavering commitment to the communities we serve.” He plans to focus on streamlining operations and developing a progressive model that supports sustained clinical success in the organization.

These appointments were highly praised by Dr. Alexander Rovt, Chair of the Board of Trustees, emphasizing the need for community hospitals that prioritize equitable access to healthcare, particularly in vulnerable neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Dr. Rovt stated, “With her robust experience and passionate commitment to One Brooklyn Health, we are pleased to see Dr. Sandra Scott assume the role as permanent CEO to ensure that OBH continues its commitment to patient-centered care.”

One Brooklyn Health encompasses multiple facilities, including Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, Interfaith Medical Center, and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. It is known for its commitment to providing quality care in areas like heart failure, stroke, and diabetes management. The network's mission is rooted in enhancing access to essential medical services for the disadvantaged communities it serves.

Through the combined leadership of Dr. Scott and Mr. Gianelli, One Brooklyn Health aims to create a health care system characterized by high-quality, patient-centered services while addressing significant community health challenges. Their strategic leadership promises to foster an environment conducive to growth, innovation, and enhanced patient care in Brooklyn and beyond.
