On June 9, 2023, PAL System Ibaraki Tochigi, located in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, held its 28th Annual General Meeting at the Lakeview Hotel Mito. The head of the organization, Chairperson Yasuyo Aoki, welcomed over 300 representatives and successfully passed all four proposed resolutions.
Key Resolutions Passed
The attendees included 133 in-person participants and 167 who voted by proxy, contributing to a total of 300 voting members out of 310 total representatives. The resolutions approved at the meeting included:
1.
Approval of Business Activities and Financial Report for FY2025
2.
Decision on Business Policy and Budget for FY2026
3.
Election of Supplementary Directors
4.
Determination of the Upper Limit of Director Compensation
As the cost of raw materials continues to soar, the organization has found itself compelled to pass on some of those costs to consumers. Despite these challenges, there has been a strong emphasis on maintaining sustainable partnerships with producers and suppliers.
Facing Climate Change Challenges
Issues related to climate change have further exacerbated the situation. Extreme weather shifts, particularly heatwaves, have significantly impacted the quantity and quality of domestic agricultural products. The tightening supply of rice has become a notable societal concern, leading to unavoidable restrictions in supply. Additionally, soaring costs in the delivery business have cast shadows over the operational landscape.
In brighter news, the organization has initiated the relocation of its Hitachi Center, signaling a significant step toward future business expansion. Collaborative agreements with local government bodies have proven successful in attracting new members, yielding positive outcomes in membership growth.
Financial Performance
Despite the challenges, the financial results reflected a structure of increasing revenue but decreasing profit margins. The total business volume reached an impressive 18.61 billion yen, marking a 101.4% increase compared to the previous year, thus setting a new record. However, the recurring surplus amounted to just 399.12 million yen, representing a decline of 6.3% year-on-year.
Engaging Users in Operations
Engagement initiatives involving users have thrived, with numerous learning sessions and exchange opportunities encouraging a deeper understanding between consumers and producers. A themed event related to the International Year of Cooperatives, proclaimed by the United Nations for 2025, has also been part of the organizational activities to reinforce cooperative values among users and staff.
The surge in attendance at the general meeting reflects a growing interest in the cooperative's operations. This engagement has accelerated positive communication channels with the board, paving the way for improved cooperative practices.
Looking ahead, PAL System Ibaraki Tochigi promises to continue striving for a society characterized by enriched living and coexistence through the promotion of its activities and services throughout the prefecture.
