Get Ready for Ontario International Airport's 5th Annual 5K at the Runway Event!

5th Annual 5K at the Runway: A Unique Community Event

Early registration for Ontario International Airport's (ONT) 5th Annual 5K at the Runway has officially begun! This unique community event is scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2027, and aims to combine fitness, aviation, and patriotism in a setting that few get to experience.

Last year, the 5K brought together over 2,000 participants, including runners, walkers, sponsors, and supporters, making it a significant fundraising event for the airport as well as the local community. The event raised nearly $83,000 for the USO at Ontario International Airport (the third-largest USO airport center in the United States), serving thousands of military personnel and their families each year as they travel.

Atif Elkadi, CEO of the Ontario International Airport Authority, shared his enthusiasm for the event, stating, "What started as a unique way to bring our community onto the airfield has grown into something much bigger. The 5K at the Runway has become a tradition that reflects so much of what ONT is about—community, connection, and bringing people together. We're proud to serve as your airport, and we're especially proud that the excitement surrounding this event translates into meaningful support for the USO and the service members and families it serves."

Registration Details

Early registration for the 2027 event is priced at $50 for the 5K run and $20 for the 1-mile Family Walk. However, participants need to hurry! Fees increase to $55 and $25 after December 13, and to $60 and $30 on race day. Every registration comes with a commemorative T-shirt, a finisher medal, and a complimentary beer for participants aged 21 and older. Notably, active-duty military members and veterans can enjoy a 50% discount by using the promo code THANKYOU.

The 5K race will kick off at 8 a.m. from the National Guard hangar located on the south side of the airfield, with the family walk/run starting at 9:30 a.m. But the fun doesn't stop there! From 8:30 to 11 a.m., a free Community Event will feature food trucks, live entertainment, vendor booths, and family-friendly activities. This celebration will also shine a spotlight on ONT and its partners, providing attendees with insight into the organizations and individuals who ensure the airport runs smoothly.

A Decade of Locally Controlled Success

The announcement of the 5th annual event coincides with Ontario International Airport's celebration of a decade of local control, marked by a formal Gala set for November 6. Since transitioning back to local ownership in 2016, the airport has seen its passenger volume soar to over 7 million annually, solidifying its position as a key transportation hub in Southern California.
