Seven-Eleven and Keio Transport Introduce Monorail Delivery
In a groundbreaking initiative in Japan, Seven-Eleven Japan and Keio Transport have announced the commencement of a monorail-based product delivery service starting December 5. This delivery method utilizes the Tamamonorail, representing Japan's very first instance of employing a monorail for product deliveries within a convenience store framework.
As concerns surrounding logistics intensify—highlighted by the upcoming 2024 problem—establishing an efficient and sustainable delivery system is vital for the industry. Responding to these pressing societal issues, the three companies involved have worked collaboratively to develop an innovative delivery model that addresses these challenges.
Through this initiative, several efficiencies are anticipated. The number of delivery trucks required will be reduced, optimal delivery routes will be established, and the working hours of delivery drivers are expected to improve. Additionally, using the monorail is likely to lead to a significant decrease in CO2 emissions, aligning with the global push for more sustainable practices in logistics and transportation.
Implementation Overview
Delivery Method:
Delivery personnel from Keio Transport will load products at Takahatafudo Station. They will then deliver items to Seven-Eleven stores situated at five nearby stations—Tamacentro, Tachikawa Minami, Tachikawa Kitakubo, Tamagawa Josui, and Kamikitadai—making a total of six delivery points.
Products Targeted:
The service will encompass chilled products, including rice balls, bento boxes, and sandwiches, as well as items from the frozen temperature range.
Expected Benefits:
With the introduction of this new service, a decrease in the number of delivery trucks utilized, enhancement of driver working hours, and a reduction in CO2 emissions are among the most significant intended outcomes.
