Innovative Art Exhibition to Transform Construction Fencing in Tokyo

Transforming Construction into Art: The KARIKAKOI Art Exhibition

Overview
The Openhouse Group, headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, is leading a fresh initiative under its corporate philosophy of supporting challenging individuals and organizations. In cooperation with the Sustainable Art Creation Organization (SACO), the group is set to launch the KARIKAKOI Art Exhibition, turning the construction site of their new residential brand, INNOVAS, located in Shinagawa, Tokyo, into a vibrant street museum.

Project Background
The initiative stems from the company’s longstanding commitment to empowering aspiring artists who are yet to have their work showcased. By facilitating a fair selection process alongside SACO—known for its dedication to uplifting young artists—Openhouse aims to create a dynamic atmosphere that stimulates creativity among both artists and the public. The exhibition seeks to enhance the environment surrounding the construction site and redefine the role of a temporary fencing, typically used to obscure the chaotic nature of construction, into a platform that highlights artistic expression while inviting public engagement.

The Exhibition Theme
Entitled KARIKAKOI, a play on the concept of 'temporary' (仮) meaning the transitional phase of both a construction site and emerging artists—this exhibition echoes the innovative spirit embodied by the INNOVAS brand's slogan: “Innovation in Residential Norms.” Artists are invited to submit works emphasizing the theme of innovation, featuring innovative techniques, materials, or perspectives. The submission period will run from July 28 to August 31, 2025.

Artwork Submission Details
The exhibition is open to various forms of two-dimensional art, including acrylics, watercolors, oil paintings, digital art, and illustrations, excluding photographs and manipulated photography. There are no restrictions based on age, nationality, or professionalism, but parental consent is required for minors. Selected works will be displayed on the fencing at the INNOVAS Fudo-mae construction site, bringing color and inspiration to passerby.

Judging Criteria
A panel of judges including representatives from the Sustainable Art Creation Organization will assess entries based on several factors, including the interpretation of the theme, artistic quality, societal perspective, and the artwork's ability to resonate in a public space.

Future Vision
The KARIKAKOI Art Exhibition is designed not just as a temporary showcase, but as an ongoing platform for art that engages deeply with society, ultimately leading to continued cycles of value creation. The Openhouse Group is committed to exploring sustainable practices that involve reusing or reimagining showcased works after the exhibition concludes. Through initiatives such as this, Openhouse aims to bolster creativity and support the development of a richer and more sustainable community.

About the Openhouse Group

Transitioning to a holding company structure in January 2022, it includes various subsidiaries focused on residential projects, real estate investments, and community collaborations.
