VARTA Expands Its Product Line, Enhancing Low-Voltage Battery Coverage for Modern Vehicles

The Expanded VARTA Portfolio Enhances Low-Voltage Battery Coverage for Modern Vehicles

VARTA is making strides in the automotive battery market with its newly expanded product line, aimed at meeting the diverse needs of modern vehicles. The company, a subsidiary of Clarios, has introduced new AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) and EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) types that enhance its already impressive coverage of 99% of the market. Both types are designed to support a wide variety of automotive applications in the aftermarket, thereby offering improved energy efficiency and longer lifespan.

The automotive industry currently finds itself at a crossroads, as the sales of fully electric vehicles have not reached anticipated forecasts. Meanwhile, vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, as well as hybrids and plug-in hybrids, continue to maintain their market share. Regardless of the powertrain, VARTA's AGM batteries provide reliable low-voltage performance, improving energy efficiency and extending lifespan.

Clarios stands as the global leader in low-voltage battery solutions and owns the VARTA Automotive brand. Around 60% of new vehicles in Europe, including electric vehicles (xEVs), are equipped with Clarios batteries. The VARTA portfolio has been meticulously developed in collaboration with leading OEM partners, making its comprehensive market coverage possible.

The newly launched EFB H9 and AGM H3 types offer outstanding support for start-stop systems, hybrid and electric vehicles, as their performance excels under demanding conditions. These new battery types ensure that modern vehicles operate efficiently and reliably. While internal combustion engines dominate the truck segment, the rise of electric trucks is noticeable. VARTA's AGM batteries remain the preferred choice for both powertrain systems, effectively contributing to a significant transformation in the trucking industry. The AGM technology reduces idle times, leading to lower costs, reduced fuel consumption, and decreased CO2 emissions.

A recent TÜV Nord report demonstrated substantial efficiency gains from AGM batteries compared to conventional wet-cell batteries. AGM technology allows for a staggering 73% reduction in idle time, resulting in significant fuel savings. Over a span of 50 weekends, these batteries can achieve:
  • - 133 hours less idle time
  • - 400 liters less fuel consumption
  • - €721 savings in fuel costs
  • - 1,041 kg less CO2 emissions

In fully electric commercial vehicles, AGM batteries play an essential role in supporting the low-voltage electronic systems. The 24-volt electrical network is a critical component, seamlessly integrating with the new wave of electric vehicles. Low-voltage batteries power vehicle electrical systems, ensuring that functions such as lighting, brakes, steering, and cabin systems operate properly, even when the high-voltage network fails. Charged AGM batteries are necessary for starting the electric drive.

With this recent expansion of its product line, VARTA continues to showcase its commitment to innovation. Earlier this year, VARTA introduced new EFB H9 and AGM H3 batteries for passenger vehicles, alongside expanding its ProMotive line for commercial vehicles with the EFB A-Type. This model is expertly designed to support contemporary low-voltage systems in trucks and commercial vehicles. Following the same design philosophy, the new AGM B-Type is anticipated to further enhance reliability and performance.
