Washington Poison Center Celebrates Creative Youth in Annual Poster Contest for Poison Prevention

Washington Poison Center’s 2025 Poster Contest Winners Announced

On March 13, 2025, the Washington Poison Center (WAPC), a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to poison prevention and drug safety, proudly unveiled the winners of its 19th annual Poison Prevention Poster Contest. This year, the contest was a thrilling showcase of creativity, with students from kindergarten through 12th grade participating.

Four outstanding winners captured the essence of the contest:
  • - Natalie Lundsten, 1st grader from Spokane, WA
  • - Aubree Huber, 3rd grader from Centralia, WA
  • - Rain Ideri Gurango, 7th grader from Shoreline, WA
  • - Amelia Walker, 12th grader from Seattle, WA

A total of 159 entries were submitted, with students showcasing their artistic talents while conveying vital information on poison prevention. The primary objective of this initiative was to enhance awareness about various household and environmental poisons and promote safety and health throughout Washington State.

Seattle Children's Hospital continued its partnership with WAPC for the third consecutive year, contributing to the promotion of the contest and assisting in spreading essential poison prevention messages across the community. Alongside a panel of judges from Seattle Children's, the winning posters were selected. Dr. Christina Delgado, Program Manager with Seattle Children's Community Health team, stated, "The poster contest has been a wonderful opportunity for youth across the state to learn about poison prevention and channel their creative energies to share health knowledge with others, ultimately making our communities safer."

The creative expressions of the winners will be featured in a series of four educational posters, which will be launched in conjunction with National Poison Prevention Week, taking place from March 16 to 22, 2025. Organizations and schools are encouraged to download these posters for printing or sharing on social media to further amplify poison prevention awareness.

In recognition of their accomplishments, each of the four winners received enticing prizes such as iPads, gift cards, and class parties. Moreover, they will have the unique opportunity to meet with their respective Washington state legislators to discuss their artwork, the importance of poison prevention, and how lawmakers work to ensure the safety of Washington citizens.

WAPC encourages communities and organizations to actively participate in National Poison Prevention Week. They offer a partner toolkit that organizations can download, along with free materials, to help spread awareness during this crucial week.
