Lewis Barbecue's Annual Hatch Chile Roast Returns to Greenville
Celebrating its rich heritage, Lewis Barbecue is set to host the much-anticipated Hatch Chile Roast for the second consecutive year on September 7th, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Held at their location on 214 Rutherford Street, Greenville, this culinary fiesta promises to be an unforgettable experience for food lovers and families alike!
A Celebration of Chile
This event pays homage to the annual chile harvest in Hatch Valley, New Mexico, a place synonymous with flavorful chiles. Legendary pitmaster John Lewis, influenced by his West Texas roots and love for all things chile, will lead the festivities. This year, the event will feature a staggering
4,000 pounds of fresh Hatch chiles, lovingly roasted on-site and available for purchase in one and five-pound bags. 🍽️🌶️
Exciting Activities for Everyone
The Hatch Chile Roast is not just about the food; it's a community celebration! Culinary enthusiasts can indulge in a variety of
chile-inspired dishes crafted by
15 local chefs, each bringing their unique twist to the event. In addition to the food, attendees can look forward to a
kiddie corral,
live music performances, and even a
chile-eating contest! Speak of a vibrant family outing!
John Lewis expressed his excitement about the event, stating, "Late summer has always meant green chile season to me and I’m excited to share the taste and smell of roasted chiles, one of my most favorite ingredients from back home, with the Greenville community." His enthusiasm is palpable, and it's clear he wants to bring a piece of New Mexico to South Carolina.
Supporting a Cause
While admission to the event is free, attendees are encouraged to support
Mill Village Farms, a nonprofit organization that provides access to healthy produce and youth employment in Greenville, with a suggested donation of
$10. A special
Peppers with Purpose Bundle is available for purchase online, which includes exclusive event perks and proceeds supporting the same cause.
Experience the Flavor
The event showcases not just the incredible chiles but also an impressive lineup of tastings from local favorites, such as
