The 25th Festival del Habano Celebrates Cohiba Behike's 15th Anniversary with a Grand Gala

The Grand Gala: Celebrating 15 Years of Cohiba Behike

The XXV Festival del Habano wrapped up with an extravagant gala evening marking the 15-year milestone of the esteemed Cohiba Behike line. Held at the Pabexpo Convention Center in Havana, this week-long celebration of fine cigars attracted around 1,400 attendees, united in their appreciation for the exquisite world of Habanos.

With a theme of elegance and sophistication, the gala delivered a night to remember, pairing gourmet cuisine with premium spirits and mesmerizing artistic performances. One of the highlights of the evening was the unveiling of the new Cohiba Behike 58 vitola—a magnificent addition to the already prestigious line, which includes the renowned BHK 52, BHK 54, and BHK 56.

Having established itself as a benchmark for luxury since its inception in 2010, the Behike series represents the pinnacle of premium tobacco. For this special anniversary, the Behike line is set to reveal a refreshed image complete with an updated premium packaging that incorporates innovative security features such as NFC technology and unique identification codes to confirm authenticity. This ensures that these cigars become coveted collectibles for aficionados.

The Cohiba Behike cigars, renowned for their complexity and rich flavor, are crafted from carefully selected leaves sourced from the finest plantations in San Juan y Martínez and San Luis in the Vuelta Abajo region of Pinar del Río, Cuba. Each vitola is meticulously handmade using the rare Medio Tiempo leaf, known for contributing a full-bodied strength and unparalleled complexity. The release of the Behike 58 helps cement the line's status as the ultimate emblem of luxury in the cigar world.

During the gala, Habanos S.A.'s co-presidents, Maritza Carrillo González and Luis Sánchez-Harguindey Pardo de Vera, addressed the audience, reflecting on the legacy and the significant impact of the Behike line within the premium tobacco market. They expressed their gratitude towards all those involved from the farmers growing the finest tobacco leaves in Vuelta Abajo to the master torcedores (cigar rollers) who transform raw materials into true masterpieces.

In addition to the celebratory festivities, the gala also served as the venue for the 2024 Habanos Awards, recognizing influential personalities in the tobacco industry. Alain Proietto was awarded in the Business category, while Aleksandar Stipcic received honors for Communication, and Reynier Lázaro for Production. The evening also announced the winner of the annual Torcedor Contest, with Brisael Perdomo Lazcano of La Corona factory being crowned Gran Torcedor 2025. This year's Habanos World Challenge Champions were Matthew Edward Castillo and Alexei Vladimir Sleur.

One of the most thrilling parts of the evening was the traditional auction of humidors, the proceeds of which contribute to Cuba's healthcare system. This year, seven exclusive humidors were auctioned, representing various Habanos brands including Cohiba, Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, and more. Notably, a special humidor commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Cohiba Behike line achieved staggering bids resulting in total proceeds of over €16 million. The bidders not only acquired unique pieces of art but also gained access to the exclusive Habanos Private Selection, which offers unique experiences and selections from the most prestigious cigars.

Musically, the event was a splendid affair, featuring performances from renowned artists like Manolito Simonet's orchestra, Susana Pous, and the internationally acclaimed band Earth, Wind & Fire, who concluded the magical evening with their vibrant and unforgettable performance, leaving an indelible mark on all present.

In summary, the gala night was a fitting tribute to the artistry and heritage of Habanos and the luxurious legacy of the Cohiba Behike line, celebrating not just a product, but the culture and community that surrounds it in the world of premium cigars.
