Nordic Semiconductor Launches Next-Gen Cellular IoT Solutions at MWC 2026

Nordic Semiconductor Unveils New Cellular IoT Innovations at MWC 2026

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, Nordic Semiconductor made headlines with the reveal of its latest advancements in cellular IoT technologies. The company, recognized globally for its low-power wireless solutions, expanded its product line significantly, introducing a series designed to enhance connectivity for billions of IoT devices across various sectors.

The unveiling of the new cellular product series, including the nRF92 and nRF93 series alongside upgrades to the nRF91 series, showcases Nordic's commitment to leading the cellular IoT market. As Vegard Wollan, CEO of Nordic Semiconductor, emphasized, "Nordic is building the next era of cellular IoT, and we are expanding our portfolio to give developers the most trusted, power-efficient, and scalable connectivity platform. Our goal is to streamline the development and deployment of globally connected products, enhancing the ecosystem from chip to cloud."

Expansion of Product Series

Nordic's new offerings highlight the firm’s commitment to innovation and meeting the ever-evolving demands within the IoT landscape.

nRF92 Series

The nRF92 series is designed as a next-generation solution incorporating LTE-M/NB-IoT and satellite NTN connectivity. With its compact size and highly integrated design, this series boasts exceptional power efficiency, enabling multi-year battery life for devices. This is especially pertinent for applications such as smart meters, trackers, industrial sensors, and wearable technology. Product sampling is already underway, with widespread availability expected by early 2027.

nRF93 Series

On the other hand, the nRF93M1 modules promise to deliver enhanced throughput (10 Mbps downlink and 5 Mbps uplink) and are engineered for robust performance. They feature global LTE support while ensuring that their low-power consumption and compact design remain intact. This makes them an ideal choice for a diverse range of applications including asset tracking and gateways. Customers are already in the process of developing products centered around the nRF93M1, which is projected to be available to the public by mid-2026.

Enhanced nRF91 Series

Improvements to the nRF91 series include the introduction of the nRF9151 module. This leading-edge LTE-M/NB-IoT module has incorporated 3GPP-compliant GEO and LEO satellite NTN connectivity, vital for logistics, smart agriculture, and infrastructure monitoring. Additionally, the nRF9151 module will offer sub-GHz fallback capabilities, ensuring connectivity remains intact even in the absence of public networks. Nordic is also launching the nRF91M1, a smart modem solution designed for customers looking for a rapid and straightforward approach to integrating cellular connectivity — optimizing for swift market entry.

Looking Towards 5G with eRedCap

In an exciting prospect for the future, Nordic announced its ongoing partnership with lead customers to develop 5G eRedCap technologies. This initiative promises to unlock a broader spectrum of applications for ultra-low-power 5G connectivity, aligning with Nordic's long-term vision of providing strong cellular solutions across a multitude of IoT use cases.

Oyvind Birkenes, EVP Long-Range at Nordic, remarked, "This expansion marks a defining moment for Nordic's long-range strategy. A unified, market-leading portfolio spanning across these technologies gives developers clarity, confidence, and a long-term roadmap they can rely on as networks evolve worldwide."
