On June 17, 2025, a press briefing will take place in Shibuya, Tokyo, regarding an innovative catheter-based cancer treatment method known as NIPP (Non-Uniform Intrapelvic Perfusion Therapy). This event is supported by MedCuration Inc., a medical venture company, and is organized by the NIPP Working Group under the Japan Interventional Radiology Society. Scheduled to begin at 14:00 at the TKP Garden City Shibuya, the briefing is aimed at media representatives and includes explanations and a Q&A session about the NIPP treatment method. This initiative is timely; cancer-related fatalities have steadily increased in Japan, with around 110,000 new cases reported annually for cancers like uterine, bladder, and rectal cancer, resulting in over 30,000 deaths each year, according to data from the National Cancer Research Center.
Despite advancements in modern medicine, the burden of treatment—both physically and financially—remains a significant concern. To address this, the NIPP team is intensifying research and clinical trials to make this technique eligible for insurance coverage, ensuring that it becomes a viable option for all who need it. Although NIPP is an existing treatment method, its classification as a “self-pay” option and its relatively low visibility among patients typically limit its discussion during consultations. In light of the rapidly approaching "Cancer Support Day" on June 21, this press briefing aims to raise awareness about NIPP and the importance of this revolutionary treatment option.
Dr. Shiro Onosawa, an experienced physician with over 25 years in catheter therapies, will lead the explanation of NIPP and share research findings related to the method. This is a unique opportunity to engage with new possibilities in cancer treatment. We sincerely hope you will consider attending, despite your busy schedules.
