A Decade of Academic Excellence: Celebrating 10 Years of Beijing Language University Tokyo Campus
On April 22, 2025, the Beijing Language University Tokyo Campus celebrated its 10th anniversary at the Toshima Community Center's multipurpose hall in Tokyo. This landmark event marked a decade of commitment to bilingual and cross-cultural education and brought together around 400 attendees including dignitaries, educational stakeholders, and current students.
Established in 2015 through a collaboration between the main Beijing Language University in China and Weworld Co., Ltd., the Tokyo campus aims to cultivate language proficiency and a global mindset among its students. The milestone celebration served not only as a testament to the trust built within the community over the past ten years but also as a stepping stone to future endeavors.
A Heartfelt Message of Gratitude
Amid the celebrations, the dean, Suo Hongfang, expressed profound appreciation towards various individuals and organizations that have supported the institution throughout these years. From industry partners aiding in internships and job placements to educational practitioners guiding students, the community's support has been invaluable. He also acknowledged the families and neighbors who have provided unending encouragement to the students.
Ceremony Highlights
The commemorative ceremony featured speeches from distinguished guests, including Zhang Baojun, the vice president of Beijing Language University, and Masakazu Ogino, the president of Weworld Co., Ltd. They were honored by congratulatory messages from notable officials such as the counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Japan, Du Kewei, and Keizo Honda, the secretary-general of the Japan Youth Development Association.
The program also included culturally rich elements like a presentation of books from the main campus, screenings of a special 10th-anniversary video, a recitation of contemporary poetry that captures the journey of the institution over the past decade, and performances featuring traditional Chinese instruments and Peking opera.
An Emphasis on Future Endeavors
After the ceremony, a celebration gathering allowed faculty members and participants to deepen their connections and discuss future collaborations.
In his message, Suo Hongfang emphasized the importance of connection—between Japan and China, languages, cultures, and most importantly, between individuals. He stated, “Education is not something one person can do alone. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us, and we will continue to cultivate ‘globally connected individuals’ by enhancing the quality of our education.”
As it embarks on the next decade, Beijing Language University Tokyo Campus aims to further enhance educational value by focusing on the following areas:
- - Strengthening ties to reach real-world applications within the international business sector,
- - Enhancing Chinese language teacher training, leveraging its expertise as a specialist in Chinese language education,
- - Promoting the development of trilingual talent skilled in Japanese, English, and Chinese,
- - Deepening connections with companies and local communities through alumni networks,
- - Expanding short-term exchange programs with overseas partner institutions.
Through these initiatives, the campus aspires to guide its students toward a future defined by the synergy of language skills, specialized knowledge, and international perspectives.
