Starting from October 11, 2025, the Toshima Ranpo Festival has officially kicked off in the vibrant Ikebukuro neighborhood. Coinciding with the birthday month of renowned mystery writer Edogawa Ranpo, this festival will continue until November 3. The event is set to envelop the area in a mystifying atmosphere, as locals and visitors engage in various mystery-themed experiences.

One of the standout events will occur on October 19 during the 63rd Homecoming Day at Rikkyo University, where a host of Ranpo and mystery-related activities are planned. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with excitement as they participate in unique mystery-solving games and interactive experiences throughout Ikebukuro, especially around the West Exit area and inside the Tobu Department Store.

Edogawa Ranpo Screening Event
At the Rikkyo University Campus, the event to celebrate Ranpo's works witnessed tremendous turnout, with enthusiastic participants filling the venue. Attendees were treated to an engaging screening of a reading performance of 'Kurotokage' (The Black Lizard), where they had the chance to unravel the mysteries presented during the story. Fans also enjoyed a performance of Ranpo's classic piece 'Ningen-Isu' (The Human Chair) recited by voice actor Hiroki Touji.

Bus Window Detective
For those seeking a unique experience, the 'Bus Window Detective – Chase the Urban Legend of the Black Cloaked Man' invites participants to board local buses while deciphering mysteries seen through the bus windows. It’s a novel way to explore the streets of Ikebukuro while solving puzzles.
Mystery Walk at Ikebukuro
Participants can also join the 'Missing Senior Reporter Trail,' which leads them through the various owl statues around Ikebukuro, as they work to solve the urban legend's mystery.

Visiting the Old Edogawa Ranpo Residence
