New Partnership to Boost Pet Insurance
Anicom Insurance Co., Ltd., under the leadership of CEO Shingo Noda from Shinjuku, Tokyo, has officially entered into a partnership with Sumitomo Life Insurance Company, led by President Yoshinori Takada from Osaka, and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company under President Shinichiro Funabiki, also from Tokyo. This collaboration aims to boost the popularity of pet insurance and improve the health of pets and their owners. Starting on September 24, 2025, Anicom's pet insurance products will become available in Sumitomo Life's sales market.
Context of the Partnership
In recent years, Japan has faced social issues like declining birth rates, an aging population, and increasing solitary households, leading to a growing sense of isolation among individuals. In this context, pets are increasingly viewed as significant members of the family, creating a heightened need for reliable solutions that ensure the safety and comfort of both pet owners and their pets. Currently, the penetration rate of pet insurance in Japan is on the rise, with estimates suggesting it sits at around 21%.
To meet the diverse needs of customers, this partnership between Anicom, Sumitomo Life, and Mitsui Sumitomo aims to explore new measures and initiatives that promote not only pet insurance but also the wellness of pets and their owners. Anicom aims to alleviate the "tears" of pet owners and generate "smiles" through its insurance offerings, while actively engaging in initiatives that cater to pet health improvement on a broader scale.
Meanwhile, Sumitomo Life's Vision2030 reflects its commitment to being an indispensable insurance group contributing to well-being, through its Vitality program and various initiatives promoting health enhancement beyond insurance.
Mitsui Sumitomo has already established a sales support system within Sumitomo Life’s employee channels. By utilizing this infrastructure for training on pet insurance products, it will enhance the effectiveness of sales efforts for these new offerings.

Leveraging Anicom's insights as the largest player in the pet insurance market, along with Sumitomo Life’s solid sales force of approximately 30,000 and a supportive network from Mitsui Sumitomo, the companies plan to provide products and services that cater to customer demands, thus further elevating the pet insurance penetration rate.
