CHIKIRI Project Brings Traditional Art to Modern Life with Limited Exhibition

Embracing Tradition: The CHIKIRI Project at Roppongi Hills

The CHIKIRI Project is set to redefine the boundaries between traditional Japanese theater and modern art. Taking place at Estnation Roppongi Hills from December 27, 2025, to January 13, 2026, this limited-time pop-up store features one-of-a-kind art pieces that celebrate the intricate craftsmanship of traditional Japanese performances.

Unique Art Pieces on Display

The centerpiece of this exhibition is the life-size art piece of 'Matsubame,' a significant symbol within the Noh theater. This stunning representation is crafted by a skilled painter who has meticulously created this powerful piece, echoing the stunning aesthetic beauty found in traditional backgrounds. The artist’s spirited brush strokes and overwhelming scale infuse modern environments with tranquility and dignified formality, making it far more than mere decoration.

In addition to 'Matsubame', the exhibition introduces the 'Art Daruma,' a new product that has never been seen before. This piece combines traditional motifs and unique colors found in Kabuki background paintings, transformed onto the canvas of the auspicious Daruma doll. Each piece is hand-painted, showcasing delicate gradients and dynamic brushwork that mass production simply cannot replicate.

The Art Daruma is not just about tradition; it is about merging with modern sensibilities. It presents a contemporary aesthetic while being rooted in Japan’s ancient classical arts, thus appealing to a sophisticated audience.
