An Innovative Step in Cold Chain Automation
In an exciting advancement for the logistics industry, Geekplus, a global leader in warehouse robotics, has launched the world’s first Pallet-to-Person system specifically designed for cold chain operations. This groundbreaking system aims to automate warehouse processes in freezing and refrigerated environments, setting a new standard for temperature-controlled logistics.
The new system, implemented in a flagship facility operated by JJCL (Jinjiang Cold Logistics), consists of a 2,700 square meter space capable of efficiently managing pallet movements in environments ranging from -18 °C to +5 °C. This marks the first mass deployment of a fully automated multi-temperature pallet handling system in the sector, which had previously lagged in automation due to extreme conditions and technical challenges.
Addressing Automation in Harsh Conditions
Geekplus’s Pallet-to-Person SkyCube system is engineered to withstand the rigors of extremely cold environments. It features a cohesive fleet of high-density pallet storage robots functioning effectively at -18 °C, along with additional robots operating in slightly warmer refrigerated zones (0 °C to -5 °C). The technology includes high-speed lifts and a unified software platform designed for continuous operation in subzero conditions.
Liu Kai, the system manager at Geekplus, expressed the company’s vision: “Cold chain logistics is no longer an exception to automation; it is the next frontier. Our systems are built to perform where others fear to tread. With our multi-temperature compatible robotics, we are redefining the adaptability of warehouses for food products, pharmaceuticals, and grocery goods.”
Particularly noteworthy is JJCL's partnership with Geekplus, which has significantly modernized its operations to meet the growing demand within the cold supply chain sector. Since the launch of the new system, storage capacity has surged by an impressive 70%, while order preparation efficiency has skyrocketed by 90%. Remarkably, the system has achieved a near-perfect accuracy level of 99.99%.
Enhancing Safety and Efficiency
In addition to dramatically improving operational efficiency, the new automated system has also made strides in safety. By minimizing human exposure to frigid temperatures, Geekplus’s technology eliminates many of the risks associated with manual handling in cold environments.
“Given the accelerating global demand for cold chain services, this launch offers a scalable template for logistics providers, food distributors, and pharmaceutical companies battling compliance, workforce, and operational risks,” Liu emphasized. “This isn’t just an upgrade; it represents a categorical transformation.”
