Mammotome Introduces Groundbreaking MRI-Guided Vacuum Biopsy System for Breast Care
Mammotome Unveils the First MRI-Guided Vacuum Biopsy System
In a significant advancement for breast healthcare, Mammotome, a part of Danaher Corporation, has launched the Mammotome Prima™, a dual vacuum system designed for MRI-guided breast biopsy procedures directly in the operating room. This pioneering system marks a first in the industry, allowing enhanced coordination among clinical staff and improved communication, all while focusing on delivering quality patient care during biopsies.
The Mammotome Prima™ MRI system is designed to streamline workflows through an intuitive interface specifically tailored for the surgical environment. Clinicians can now benefit from larger tissue samples, facilitated by a stronger vacuum power and an 8-gauge needle. This system has demonstrated a 75% reduction in tubing complexity compared to other biopsy systems, resulting in quicker setup and cleaning processes while minimizing biohazardous waste. It further features convenient size and vacuum strength adjustments on a user-friendly touchscreen display.
These collective advancements ultimately enable clinical staff to concentrate on providing safe, precise, and compassionate care, which translates into improved experiences for patients undergoing these procedures. Scott Treml, Vice President and General Manager of Mammotome, stated, “Our commitment to advancing breast care drives every innovation we bring to the market. As the first solution of its kind for operating rooms, the Mammotome Prima™ MRI system offers clinicians enhanced efficiency and confidence, ultimately enhancing the patient experience.”
The Mammotome Prima™ MRI system has received CE marking, with initial cases already being addressed in select European countries. The system is set to be officially introduced at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in March, with plans for Mammotome to expand its availability across select global markets throughout 2026.
Mammotome is dedicated to being an indispensable partner for physicians, clinical staff, and patients alike, bolstered by its experience and compassion in breast care. The company boasts a comprehensive range of innovative products aimed at delivering better breast care outcomes. Their solutions provide educational resources to support both clinicians and patients throughout their journeys. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mammotome has been a key member of the Danaher Corporation since 2014 and its products are sold in over 45 countries worldwide.
With the introduction of the Mammotome Prima™, the future of breast biopsies looks brighter, allowing healthcare professionals to provide elevated standards of care while ensuring patients receive the attention and compassion they deserve.
