Power Metallic's Positive Mineralogy Results Highlight Potential in High-Grade Copper-PGE Deposits
Power Metallic Mines Inc. Reveals Positive Results from Initial Mineralogy Study
Power Metallic Mines Inc., a Canadian exploration company, has recently shared encouraging initial findings from mineralogy scans performed on samples from its Lion deposit. These scans, conducted by IOS Geosciences, are designed to assess the mineral characteristics of the site, particularly its potential for platinum group element (PGE) enrichment associated with copper minerals.
The Lion deposit, located within the Nisk Project Area, features two defined zones of mineralization: a High-Grade zone showcasing rich copper sulphide deposits, and a lower-grade Hanging-wall Zone. Preliminary results from over 100 mineralized samples suggest the presence of semi-massive to massive copper sulphide and highlight the considerable metal value concentrated within the High-Grade zone.
Mineralogy and Scanning Results
Detailed microscopic examinations conducted on selected samples from these zones reveal crucial insights into the mineral species present. With approximately half of the sampling suite analyzed, results so far indicate that conventional sulphide concentrate recovery methods are likely viable for extracting valuable metals from the High-Grade zone. The key minerals identified include chalcopyrite and cubanite, which are expected to exhibit favorable responses to conventional concentration processes akin to those used for Sudbury type ores.
Furthermore, scans have detected the majority of PGE mineral species, which appear either within or attached to the chalcopyrite and cubanite. Specifically, minerals such as stannopalladinite, froodite, and merenskyite have been identified, akin to those found in other significant polymetallic deposits. This revelation fuels optimism regarding the efficient recovery of PGEs alongside copper in concentrates produced at the site.
Future Developments
The mineralogical testing is on track for completion by the end of summer, laying the groundwork for subsequent metallurgical studies aimed at evaluating the optimal recovery techniques for the Lion deposit. Power Metallic is set to commence this critical phase of work before the winter drilling program begins, with initial results anticipated to be available early next year.
