Tokyo Great Bears Unveils Unique Book Post Design Contributing to Community

Tokyo Great Bears' New Book Post in Daikanyama

In a remarkable initiative aimed at strengthening community ties, the Tokyo Great Bears, a professional volleyball team based in Shibuya, have unveiled a newly designed book post in Daikanyama. This project is a collaboration with the local education and sports department and serves as a convenient return point for borrowed library books.

Project Overview

The book post, designed by the team's Art Director and Creative Director Koichi Kosugi, showcases the unique branding of the Tokyo Great Bears. Officially completed on September 9, 2025, this book post represents the first instance where the team has collaborated on the design of a public utility. It stands at 17-9 Daikanyama-cho, near the entrance of the Daikanyama Sports Plaza, and has already seen a robust response from the community with numerous books returned on its opening day.

Engaging the Community

The Tokyo Great Bears, established in June 2022 following the transition of FC Tokyo's volleyball operations, aim to connect people, regions, and the wider world through volleyball. This commitment to community engagement was demonstrated previously when players like Tetsuya Mutou, the current head coach for the U15 team, and Akira Otake participated in children's storytelling events at the Shibuya City Library. The new book post is another step in fostering a love for reading and education, now tied to the team's identity.

Behind the Creative Vision

The design work by Koichi Kosugi, who founded the creative agency 'onehappy', reflects his commitment to enhancing brand identities through imaginative direction. With a notable background in communication design and significant accolades like the Tokyo ADC Award and a Gold Lion at the Cannes International Festival of Creativity, Kosugi's work is recognized both nationally and internationally. His portfolio includes renowned projects for brands such as Suntory and Suzuki, marking him as a leading figure in contemporary design.

A Commitment to Local Culture

The Tokyo Great Bears not only focus on sports but also seek to uplift local culture and community spirit. The book post will serve as a constant reminder of the importance of reading and knowledge, symbolizing the bond between sports and education. Team management, led by CEO Kenji Kubota, emphasizes this vision, asserting that the Tokyo Great Bears are not only a volleyball team but a community-oriented organization dedicated to making a positive impact.

Future Initiatives

As the Tokyo Great Bears continue their journey, they assure their fans and the Shibuya community that this is just the beginning. The team plans to embark on more local initiatives that promote sports, cultural activities, and community engagement. In doing so, they strive to leave a lasting impression on Shibuya, transforming it into a vibrant hub for both athletics and learning.

With an emblem of a bear inspired by the constellation Ursa Major, the Tokyo Great Bears will keep shining like the seven stars of the Big Dipper, symbolizing the unity between players, fans, and the community.
