World Phygital Community Announces Global Qualifying Tournament Season 2025/2026

On April 15th, 2025, the World Phygital Community (WPC) revealed its thrilling 2025/2026 tournament season that promises to be a landmark event for athletes and clubs eager to qualify for the highly anticipated Games of the Future in Kazakhstan. From August 1 to December 15, 2025, the WPC will host a series of tournaments worldwide, giving competitors the chance to showcase their skills in a hybrid arena of physical and digital sports.

This upcoming season marks the largest competition in WPC history, with participation from 96 community members across 92 countries. As Dan Merkley, Chairperson of the WPC, noted, "This new season will be the biggest ever, providing an opportunity for anyone to join this fast-evolving phenomenon. Phygital sport is inclusive and we look forward to discovering the next generation of phygital athletes."

The tournament structure is divided into several stages: beginning with regional competitions, known as Phygital Origins, within participating countries, followed by national tournaments called Phygital Rivals. Competitors will battle for supremacy in various key disciplines such as Phygital Football, Phygital Basketball, Phygital Shooter, and Phygital Dancing. The formats for the first three sports involve two stages, beginning with a digital face-off in a video game format, followed by a real-world competition in the same discipline. In contrast, Phygital Dancing will utilize popular dancing video games to deliver its unique blend in a single stage.

At the conclusion of the tournaments in December, rankings will be established, and the top two clubs and athletes from each discipline will secure their spots at the Games of the Future in 2026. Meanwhile, those who finish in places three to twenty-six will have the opportunity to compete in the Phygital Contenders tournament to vie for their chance at the event.

All WPC members are invited to apply to host Phygital Origins and Phygital Rivals tournaments during the application window running from May 1st to July 31st, 2025.
