Zelle Partners with NYC Ferry for Free Rides Every Thursday
Starting October 1, 2026, Zelle is set to transform dating in New York City by offering free ferry rides every Thursday throughout the month. In partnership with NYC Ferry, Zelle aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with dating, allowing New Yorkers to explore the city without worrying about transport costs.
Denise Leonhard, the general manager of Zelle, shared, "Dating in New York can add up, but we want to ensure that enjoying a memorable night out doesn’t have to break the bank. By covering ferry fares throughout October, we’re helping people support local businesses while embarking on exciting adventures."
An Affordable Date Night Guide
In conjunction with the free ferry rides, Zelle will also introduce the Zelle NYC Affordable Date Night Guide. This guide compiles budget-friendly date spots situated near NYC Ferry routes, curated in collaboration with Ellie Williams, founder of the popular lifestyle publication 'For the Girls.' The guide highlights local businesses that make date nights not only affordable but also filled with unique experiences.
Some of the featured businesses in the guide include:
- - Electrix Vintage and Saint Street Cakes in Brooklyn
- - Upper East Side Petals and Milkweed Studio in Manhattan
- - BrickHouse Ceramic Art Center in Queens
- - Native Rose Coffee in Staten Island
- - Delicioso Coco Helado in The Bronx
Ellie Williams expressed her thoughts on modern dating, saying, "Our generation is leaning towards experiences rather than price tags. It’s about exploring new neighborhoods, supporting local shops, and creating memorable stories."
Weekly Free Trips
Each Thursday, Zelle will cover ferry rides along different routes:
- - October 1: St. George
- - October 8: East River
- - October 15: Rockaway–Soundview
- - October 22: South Brooklyn
- - October 29: Astoria
This initiative builds on insights from the Zelle New Economics of Dating Report, showcasing how rising costs are adapting the dating habits of younger generations. From deciding on date venues to assessing financial compatibility, these findings reflect a shift in dating norms.
Kick-off Event on October 1
The launch event for this unique program kicks off on October 1. From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, New Yorkers are welcomed aboard the ferry for a special experience filled with local vendors, stunning views, giveaways, and refreshments. There will be fun interactions as well, including a lighthearted discussion on compatibility in relationships, led by an astrologer and financial expert, Ashley Feinstein Gerstley.
Participants can enjoy free ferry rides while space is available, with one-way tickets valid only for the specific route. It’s an opportunity for both couples and friends to begin their date night on a high note—literally on the water, surrounded by the city skyline.
In essence, Zelle’s initiative not only makes dating in NYC more accessible, it reinforces the importance of supporting local businesses that enrich the city's culture. As Zelle continues to evolve its offerings, this partnership with NYC Ferry showcases a fresh approach to reconnecting with the community while enjoying the pleasures of urban romance.
