The highly anticipated National Collaborative Opera for 2026 is set to captivate audiences at four different venues: the Kanazawa Opera Theatre in Ishikawa, the Hirakata City Cultural Arts Center in Osaka, the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in Tokyo, and the Niigata Prefectural Citizens Hall in Niigata. The opera in focus is Giuseppe Verdi's renowned work, "Il Trovatore," which is celebrated for its demanding vocal performances, making its presentation in Japan a rare and valuable experience.

Synopsis


"Il Trovatore" unfolds the dramatic story of love, revenge, and a shocking blood secret set against the backdrop of Spain. The narrative centers on Count di Luna and the troubadour Manrico, both in love with the noblewoman Leonora, who somehow sparks a fatal rivalry between the two. Meanwhile, the gypsy Azucena, a character marked by a tragic past, fuels the conflict with her deep-seated vendetta against the Luna family resulting from the execution of her mother. The intertwining destinies of these characters lead to an unforgettable climax steeped in tragedy.

Under the direction of the talented Miho Takagishi, known for her sensitive psychological insights, the opera will feature seasoned conductor Jun Iisaka and rising star conductor Yu Kumakura.
