Kuradashi to Launch Second Round of 'Loss Assistance Set' for Online Sale

Kuradashi Expands 'Loss Assistance Set' Offerings

In an effort to tackle food waste, the social good market company, Kuradashi, has decided to launch the second round of their popular 'Loss Assistance Set' on Famima Online. After the incredible success of the first round in April, where all 200 sets were sold out within hours, Kuradashi is now offering 500 additional sets starting from May 13, 2025.

About Kuradashi

Kuradashi operates with a mission to remain a social good company and a vision to become the top company in Japan reducing food waste. They purchase food items that are still valid but difficult to sell through traditional channels, such as products nearing expiration, seasonal goods, or those with packaging flaws. These items are then sold on the social good market, Kuradashi, with partial proceeds going to support various social contribution activities.

Famima's Initiatives Against Food Waste

Famima, the company behind FamilyMart, has ambitious medium-to-long-term goals under 'Famima Eco Vision 2050', aiming for a 50% reduction in food waste in stores by 2030 and an 80% reduction by 2050 compared to fiscal year 2018 levels. Initiatives such as improving order accuracy, enhancing product packaging for longer shelf life, and introducing 'eco discounts' on soon-to-expire products have been part of their strategy. They also plan to introduce emotional discount stickers, known as 'teary stickers', starting March 2025.

Partnership Between Kuradashi and Famima

Both companies share a commitment to reducing food waste. In a collaborative effort, Kuradashi's products will now be available for sale on Famima Online. This initiative is expected to encourage more people to engage in food waste reduction.

Details of the 'Loss Assistance Set'

The 'Loss Assistance Set' includes over 20 items that are still consumable but may face waste due to nearing expiration dates, packaging errors, or minor damages. This set will be sold exclusively on Famima Online, allowing customers to purchase items as one-time sets rather than a subscription-based model. The previous set received overwhelming support, and Kuradashi aims to replicate that success with this second sales phase.

The retail price for the set is 3,980 yen (tax included), and it contains assorted products that may otherwise contribute to food waste. A portion of the sales will be allocated to the Kuradashi Fund, supporting regional development and food education initiatives.

Looking Ahead

Kuradashi plans to continue the sale of the 'Loss Assistance Set' beyond June and broaden their product offerings in alignment with Famima's social good initiatives. By doing so, they hope to further contribute to solving social issues through economically and environmentally sustainable practices.

About Kuradashi and Famima
