Celebrating a Decade of Collaboration: Newport Healthcare and TWLOHA for Suicide Prevention

Every individual deserves support before a crisis escalates into tragedy. This core belief drives the enduring partnership between Newport Healthcare and To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA), now celebrating ten years of collaboration. As September marks Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the two organizations are joining forces to share messages of hope and connect individuals with essential mental health resources.

In 2026, both organizations commemorate significant milestones: a decade of partnership and the 20th anniversary of TWLOHA’s founding story. The theme for this year's campaign, "This Is Not the End of Your Story," captures the essence of both entities. It conveys that pain does not define a person's worth, that help is accessible, and that healing is possible.

The urgency for connection and access to care remains pressing. According to the CDC, nearly 49,000 individuals in the U.S. died by suicide in a recent year, making it the second leading cause of death among those aged 10 to 34. Furthermore, a survey indicated that 20% of high school students pondered suicide seriously in the previous year.

"For ten years, our partnership has been rooted in the firm belief that nobody should endure their struggles in isolation," stated Brian Setzer, CEO of Newport Healthcare. "When awareness is combined with practical resources and authentic connections, we can save lives. We remain committed to helping more young individuals and families understand that their journey is ongoing."

Throughout September, Newport Healthcare and TWLOHA will engage in joint marketing and awareness initiatives designed to encourage open discussions about mental well-being, emphasize the importance of seeking help, and direct individuals toward available support resources. Newport Healthcare is also launching a matching gift campaign to fund TWLOHA’s services and initiatives that link individuals with treatment and support.

Lindsay Kolsch, TWLOHA’s Executive Director, reminded us of the nonprofit’s roots: "TWLOHA began 20 years ago with one person who chose to show up and support a friend in need. Newport has been with us for half that journey, amplifying our message that seeking help is courageous. Together, we aim to provide hope and accessible assistance, urging individuals to remember, 'Please stay. This is not the end of your story.'"

On September 16, 2026, at 12 p.m. ET, Newport Healthcare will host a special virtual event featuring Jamie Tworkowski, TWLOHA’s founder, and a panel of experts. Attendees are invited to view a new documentary detailing TWLOHA’s origins and its impact over two decades. This will be followed by a discussion about collaborative efforts in mental health awareness.
