Shatterproof Appoints Pam Jenkins as New CEO to Combat Addiction Crisis in America

Shatterproof Names Pam Jenkins as New CEO

In a significant leadership transition, Shatterproof has appointed Pam Jenkins as its new Chief Executive Officer on June 30, 2025. Jenkins succeeds Gary Mendell, the founder and current CEO. Mendell, who established Shatterproof after the tragic loss of his son to substance use, will continue to be involved as Chairperson Emeritus.

Jenkins was selected following a comprehensive six-month search supervised by Russell Reynolds Associates. Dubbed a key voice in public health, Jenkins brings over 30 years of expertise, enhancing health outcomes through collaborations with governmental bodies, healthcare firms, and non-profit organizations. Her recent tenure includes roles at Weber Shandwick, where she served simultaneously as Chief Public Affairs Officer and Chief Public Health Officer.

Mendell expressed confidence in Jenkins's ability to drive Shatterproof's mission forward, emphasizing her extensive experience, creativity, and innovative approach that aligns with the organization's values. “This transition marks a new chapter for Shatterproof,” he stated, reflecting the organization’s aim to deepen its impact in the community.

In her remarks, Jenkins highlighted her commitment to tackling one of the most pressing public health issues – that of addiction. She recognized the urgency in combating the crisis, acknowledging the alarming statistics of over 100,000 overdose deaths annually and dwindling public health resources available for prevention and treatment.

Under Jenkins's leadership, Shatterproof will continue its mission to enhance access to quality addiction treatment, reduce stigma surrounding substance use disorder, and drive change through policy initiatives. Jenkins's approach aims to educate the public about addiction prevention and recovery while advocating for those affected by substance use disorders.

Shatterproof aims to empower individuals and families impacted by addiction and foster an environment where seeking help is not stigmatized. As Jenkins steps into her new role, she appreciates the groundwork laid by Mendell and is focused on building upon the existing legacy.

The nonprofit sector has faced numerous challenges over the years, particularly in the public health realm. Jenkins's appointment is expected to bring renewed energy and strategic direction to tackle these challenges head-on, fostering partnerships that engage stakeholders at all levels.

For more than a decade, Shatterproof has been dedicated to fighting the addiction crisis affecting communities across the United States. The organization's initiatives include advocating for better treatment options, increased funding for addiction services, and enhancing public understanding of mental health and addiction issues.

Jenkins's impressive background and insights are anticipated to help Shatterproof navigate upcoming hurdles, ensuring the organization remains a robust advocate for individuals suffering from addiction and their families. As challenges mount, her leadership will be pivotal in fostering solutions that drive effective changes within the health landscape.

Shatterproof continues to gain momentum, driven by the commitment of its leadership, the expertise of its staff, and the backing of its board of directors. With Pam Jenkins at the helm, the organization is poised to further its mission and create a lasting impact in the battle against substance use disorder.
