In a groundbreaking initiative to enhance firefighter safety, eB-P has partnered with the Fujisawa Fire Department to pilot a novel heatstroke prevention support system. This system utilizes wearable armband sensor devices linked to smartphones to monitor critical health metrics including core body temperature, skin temperature, and heart rate in real-time. The data collected will help quantify the heat stress experienced by firefighters and facilitate necessary health adjustments during operations.

Background and Purpose

Firefighting and emergency response activities often occur in high-temperature environments, significantly increasing the risk of heatstroke among personnel. In light of new amendments to the Labor Safety and Health Regulations set to take effect on June 1, 2025, which mandate enhanced heatstroke prevention measures, this project aims to strengthen safety management protocols. By adeptly managing heat exposure, the initiative seeks to reduce secondary incidents and elevate the operational environment for firefighters, ultimately ensuring their well-being during challenging tasks.

Trial Details

The following operational procedures will be implemented to evaluate the functionality and accuracy of the system:

• - Each firefighter will receive a unique app installed on their smartphone, allowing for personal data monitoring.
• - The armband sensor device, designed to be worn constantly except during bathing, can be affixed to either the forearm or upper arm.
• - Data collection will occur during regular duty and heat acclimatization training sessions.

• - IP67-rated waterproof and dustproof capabilities.
