Busting Myths: CheapOair's Guide to Finding Flight Deals on National Cheap Flight Day

CheapOair Reveals Insights for National Cheap Flight Day

As National Cheap Flight Day approaches on August 23, CheapOair, a prominent online travel agency, has unveiled findings from its first survey aimed at debunking popular myths surrounding flight bookings. The survey surveyed 1,000 American travelers and supplemented the results with the company’s own historical booking data. The results challenge long-held beliefs and misconceptions that could hinder travelers from truly saving on their flights.

According to CheapOair’s data, the day itself is not just a standalone event, but marks the beginning of a broader period where cheaper flight options become more widely available. Past trends have showcased that airfares usually tend to dip after the summer travel season, particularly between late August and early September. Specifically, domestic flight prices are reported to be about 12% less on average, while international fares can drop as much as 17% compared to early August pricing.

Myths and Realities in Flight Booking

One of the critical roles of the survey was to pinpoint common misconceptions that still prevail among travelers. Results revealed that nearly 74.4% of participants think there exists a “best time of day” to book flights. However, the reality is that such a phenomenon does not exist. Similarly, 50.4% still hold the belief that clearing browser cookies can lead to lower flight prices, while 48.2% believe that repeated search for flights can drive up their prices. These outdated assumptions can mislead travelers seeking the best deals.

Beyond these myths, other beliefs were also tested against the actual data, showing that they may not necessarily hold true:
  • - Round-trip tickets always cheaper? Only 72.2% of respondents think so, while the truth is that one-way tickets can sometimes be more economical.
  • - Budget airlines always offer the lowest fares? While 68.1% believe this, hidden fees can quickly erase any apparent savings.
  • - Connecting flights are cheaper? Even 66.3% embrace this belief, which isn’t guaranteed to be true.

A significant disconnect observed was when 54.7% of survey respondents thought the cheapest fares appear months ahead of departure. In contrast, CheapOair's own booking data suggests that the best deals typically surface when tickets are bought 30 to 60 days prior to travel.

The Evolving Landscape of Airfare

The Chief Supply Revenue Officer of Fareportal, Yuvraj Datta, points out, “Airfare pricing is more fluid than ever, and many of the 'rules' travelers rely on aren't as accurate as they once were.” In this context, travelers aiming to discover the best deals should consider different booking timelines, rather than equating savings with traditional booking times.

Additionally, opinions diverge on the best platforms for securing low airfare: 30.6% trust airlines, 29.4% prefer online travel agencies, and 27.5% lean towards comparison sites. CheapOair facilitates this process by enabling travelers to assess fares across numerous airlines while providing flexibility in their travel dates.

In celebration of National Cheap Flight Day, CheapOair is discounting booking fees by $55 with the code FLIGHT55 for eligible bookings made between August 17 and 27, 2026.
