Dalmore Unveils Collaboration with Ben Dobbin

The Dalmore Single Malt Whisky has just revealed an exciting partnership with renowned architect Ben Dobbin from Foster + Partners. This collaboration marks the third installment of The Dalmore Luminary Series, aimed at illuminating the intricate worlds of whisky crafting and architectural design. This unique release is set to launch in Venice and emphasizes the harmonious relationship between these two creative domains.

Ben Dobbin is not only a distinguished architect but also a visionary whose notable works include Apple Park and the revival of the Transamerica Pyramid. His involvement in the Luminary Series is a testament to the elevated standards and artistic integrity that The Dalmore brand embodies.
The Luminary 2025 Edition, named 'The Rare', is an extraordinary 52-year-old single malt whisky that has been matured to perfection. It is presented in an exquisitely crafted decanter and set within a bespoke sculpture designed by Dobbin himself. This collaboration has resulted in a piece of art that transcends the ordinary—where whisky appears almost frozen in time, exemplifying the concept of tensegrity.

The sculpture, designed by Dobbin, boasts an asymmetrical and dynamic form, characterized by stunning waves and rods fashioned from bronze. It has been constructed with a commitment to balance and elegance, which mirrors The Dalmore's own quest for excellence in whisky craftsmanship. The creative synergy between Dobbin and The Dalmore artisans, including Gregg Glass and Richard Paterson OBE, is palpable—both teams have drawn inspiration from shared ideals about creativity, precision, and the intricate dance of flavors found in a good whisky.

In Ben Dobbin's own words, he describes the experience, saying, "Collaborating with The Dalmore has been absolutely fascinating. This journey has been infinitely more precise and creatively enriching than I anticipated. Spending time in the distillery has shaped my design philosophy as we explored our shared sense of place and the embodiment of materiality in our respective practices." He emphasizes the authenticity of this partnership, expressing immense pride in the outcome.

Richard Paterson, Master Distiller at The Dalmore, echoes similar sentiments, highlighting how this collaboration enhances the scope of The Luminary Series. He noted, "This partnership seamlessly integrates into The Luminary Series, illustrating what can be achieved when complementary creative talents merge to elevate both whisky and architecture to new heights."
Gregg Glass contributed to this engaging conversation by stating, "Meeting Ben was a true meeting of minds. There are numerous parallels between whisky-making and architecture; both are iterative processes striving to produce something that endures over time."

The Dalmore Luminary 2025 Edition - The Rare will be available for auction at Sotheby’s Hong Kong on May 16, with 100% of proceeds going toward VA Dundee, the Scottish Design Museum. This expected landmark event will not only showcase the artistry of whisky and architecture but will also support cultural institutions that enrich our appreciation for art and design.
