Exciting Kickoff of the 2026 All Japan Super Formula Championship Season!
The “SANKI VERTEX PARTNERS CERUMO・INGING” team, with Vertex Partners as the main partner, officially fired up the 2026 season on February 28. Held in Yamaguchi Prefecture, the event attracted fans eager to witness the team’s plans and preparation for the upcoming championship.
Special Fan Meeting Event
Unlike previous years, which primarily focused on team announcements, this year's fan meeting integrated the insights and presence of drivers from the Super GT300 class, specifically from the “HYPER WATER Racing INGING” team. The event featured team director Yūji Tachikawa, along with drivers Sena Sakaguchi (Car No. 38) and Toshiki Ōyu (Car No. 39), as well as Super GT300 drivers Yūi Tsutsumi and Kazuki Urabe. Each shared their experiences from last season and expectations for the new one.
In his opening remarks, Tachikawa expressed his excitement, stating, “Standing here today, I feel the season is really about to begin. It’s a short time we have together, but I want everyone here to relax and enjoy this moment.”
Enthusiastic Discussions on the Upcoming Season
The main talk show was electrifying, with each driver giving insights into their preparations.
Aiming for Higher Goals
Sena Sakaguchi, participating in his sixth Formula Super season, reflected on his previous season, “Although there were ups and downs two years ago, last year was stable, albeit without a win. That’s something that fuels my determination.” He also noted the team’s evolution: “With improved data sharing and teamwork, I feel more prepared for this season than ever.”
Toshiki Ōyu, now in his third season with the team, noted, “I believe this season will bring the best results. I am eager to build on our teamwork and strive for the podium.” He mentioned their performance during the recent official test at Suzuka as positive, highlighting, “The car feels good, and we've been working hard to make this season a successful one.”
A Strong Team Spirit
Tachikawa emphasized the team’s continuous structure as a critical advantage this season, stating, “After a significant restructuring two years ago, we are almost entirely the same as last year. The work we’ve put in over three years has solidified our cohesion.” He pointed out the energetic rapport between Sakaguchi and Ōyu as indicative of the positive atmosphere within the team, emphasizing the commitment of all members to work collaboratively.
Innovations in Super GT300
In the Super GT300 class, the “HYPER WATER Racing INGING” team is set for a dynamic change with new drivers. Yūi Tsutsumi noted, “With a new partner in Kazuki Urabe, we aim to infuse fresh energy into the team. Last season saw us on the podium, but this year, we’re aiming for the championship title.”
Kazuki Urabe, the reigning champion of the 2025 Interpro series, added, “I want to deliver solid results as a regular driver this season. I feel a strong connection to our fans here in Yamaguchi.”
Both drivers acknowledged the challenges of adapting to their new dynamics but expressed optimism that this would only enhance their performance.
A Light-hearted Fan Interaction
As the event transitioned, the conversation moved to lighter topics, such as hobbies. Tachikawa shared his amusing observations of professional driver Toshitada Kobayashi during GT500 competitions, eliciting laughter. Sakaguchi reminisced about enjoying afternoons at the park with his daughter, and Ōyu mentioned that personal time is essential for him. Tsutsumi humorously claimed to have a hobby of watching Ōyu.
Engaging Activities with Fans
Following the talk session, an exhilarating Gran Turismo competition between the four drivers took place, bringing an electric atmosphere to the venue. Fans cheered as the racers grappled with virtual racing challenges. Additionally, interactive games allowed fans to engage directly with the drivers, which cultivated a sense of unity ahead of the new season.
