This exquisite wine will be available at five select hotels in the Tokyo metropolitan area for a limited time only. Following the successful launches of previous variants, this iteration promises to continue the tradition of excellence.

The origins of the Tokyu Group's original wine stem from a collaborative effort among several entities, including Tokyu Department Store, Nagano Tokyu Department Store, Tokyu Store, and Tokyu Hotels. Together, their sommeliers sample and select the base wine from barrels nurtured at a local winery, with careful attention to quality. This initiative is part of a larger cooperative agreement with Nagano Prefecture aimed at promoting sustainable community development and showcasing the appeal of local wines.

The Wine's Identity

The 'Wakamurasaki' name refers to one of Japan's traditional colors, embodying youthfulness, freshness, and sophisticated beauty. This title was a nod to the 2020 vintage produced by Domaine Kosei but has been revived here due to the similarities in barrel selection and intended flavor profile. The growing technique and selection involve blending grapes sourced from three different vineyards in the Katahira district of Shiojiri city, differing in elevation, ensuring a complex flavor profile.

This blend has been matured in French oak barrels from the Nadarie company, enhancing its flavor and adding elegance to the wine. The final product is a radiant purple hue reminiscent of fresh fruits like plums and black cherries, underpinned by subtle oak influences. The sommeliers from the participating brands have unanimously praised its balance of fruitiness and oak character, elevating it as a sophisticated drink worthy of recommendation.

The subtle aromas drawn from quality oak barrels impart notes of vanilla and spices, reminiscent of dark berries. The taste is fruity, offering rich flavors with a smooth finish that lingers beautifully.” He suggests pairing it with creamy domestic cheeses, such as fresher goat cheese or washed rinds, which harmonize well with the wine’s profile compared to their more pungent European counterparts.
