Colt DCS and RMZ Launch Third Data Centre in Mumbai to Meet AI Demands

Colt DCS and RMZ Announce New Data Centre in Mumbai

Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS), a renowned global provider, alongside RMZ, India's leading real assets company, has embarked on an important project in Mumbai. This initiative marks the beginning of construction for their third data centre amid a rapidly increasing demand for AI-enabled infrastructure. Titled ‘Mumbai 3’, this facility is located in Navi Mumbai and aims to provide 64 megawatts (MW) of power upon its completion.

A Strategic Investment

This development is part of a broader $1.7 billion investment effort between Colt DCS and RMZ, unveiled back in 2024. It underscores the companies' commitment to enhancing data centre capabilities across India. Construction activities officially commenced after ground preparations initiated in December 2025, following the securing of the facility's inaugural hyperscale client. This rapid progression is a testament to the successful scaling of the joint venture, achieving significant milestones within just 18 months.

Meeting Evolving Demand

The demand for data centres has transformed significantly, with businesses increasingly seeking larger, more potent infrastructures to support intensive AI workloads. Mumbai 3 is strategically designed to cater to these specific requirements.

Pratap Mane, the Country Head for Colt DCS in India, indicated that modern customers are focusing on higher rack densities and larger deployments; thus, Mumbai 3 is tailored to meet these evolving needs. This facility not only strengthens the Navi Mumbai campus but is also equipped with advanced cooling technologies, such as liquid cooling systems, which enhance operational resilience.

Deepak Chhabria, President of RMZ Digital Infrastructure, remarked that the future of digital growth hinges on scalable and quick-to-market infrastructure. The Mumbai 3 project is crucial in creating an environment where hyperscalers and cloud providers can seamlessly expand their capabilities as their computational requirements advance.

Sustainable Solutions

Mumbai 3’s construction is built on sustainability principles. The facility is slated to be powered entirely by renewable energy, with a design that incorporates closed-loop cooling systems, minimizing wastewater output. Environmental considerations are paramount in this ambitious project, which aims to harmonize technological advancements with ecological responsibility.

Moreover, this development is expected to generate over 700 jobs during both construction and operational phases, fostering local economies by engaging regional suppliers and contractors. The commitment of Colt DCS and RMZ to sustainable digital infrastructure reflects their understanding and dedicational gestures towards the regional community’s well-being and success.

Looking Ahead

With the anticipated operational capacity of 86MW once Mumbai 3 is completed, this facility positions itself as a critical component within the existing Mumbai data centre portfolio, which includes Mumbai 1 and Mumbai 2 located at the Navi Mumbai Campus. The potential to deliver a total of 148MW of power across these sites emphasizes a strong future outlook for digital infrastructure in a market that is rapidly evolving to meet the needs of the AI era.

In addition to their ongoing projects, Colt DCS and RMZ aim to develop an impressive 250MW of data centre capacity across key Indian cities, namely Mumbai and Chennai. The partnership fuses Colt DCS’ global expertise in data centres with RMZ’s critical infrastructure capabilities, promising a robust framework for digital advancements in India.

Conclusion

As the AI sector continues to grow, investments such as Mumbai 3 demonstrate the proactive steps being taken to ensure the infrastructure aligns with technological needs. By merging state-of-the-art design with a focus on sustainability, Colt DCS and RMZ showcase their commitment to shaping the future of India's digital landscape. The unveiling of this new data centre is just one step in a larger journey towards a more connected and technologically advanced India.
