OCI Energy and Arava Power Launch 260 MW Solar Initiative in Texas

OCI Energy Partners with Arava Power for Solar Development

In a significant move toward sustainable energy development, OCI Energy, a prominent clean energy developer based in San Antonio, Texas, has announced a partnership with Israel's Arava Power. Together, they will develop a new solar project named Project SunRoper, which will boast a capacity of 260 MWac and be located in Wharton County, Texas. This initiative marks the second collaboration between the two companies, following their previous successful project that saw the operational launch of a 200 MWac solar plant, Project SunRay, in Uvalde County.

Project Overview

Situated about 60 miles southwest of Houston, Project SunRoper is strategically planned to address the growing electricity demand in one of Texas' most power-hungry regions. The construction for this groundbreaking solar farm is expected to commence in 2025, aiming to substantially boost the state's renewable energy infrastructure and its overall energy security.

Sabah Bayatli, President of OCI Energy, articulated the vision behind this collaborative effort, stating, "The partnership between OCI Energy and Arava Power reflects our shared vision for advancing solar energy solutions and enhancing grid reliability in high-demand markets." This sentiment underscores the importance of joint ventures in driving economic development and ensuring energy availability in communities across Texas.

Economic and Environmental Impact

Beyond merely generating electricity, Project SunRoper is designed to create a positive ripple effect on the local economy. The impending construction and operational phases promise significant job creation and investment in the region, which is crucial for fostering economic resilience.

Ilan Zidkony, CEO of Arava Power, emphasized the strategic importance of this project within their long-term growth strategy in the US. "Project SunRoper presents a shining example of our commitment to sustainable energy solutions. Our collaboration with OCI Energy has been fruitful, showcasing the synergy between our teams while leveraging our extensive industry experience. This partnership will pave the way for a successful and sustainable future," he remarked.

The development of Project SunRoper is anticipated to play a vital role in Texas' broader push toward renewable energy, particularly in reducing carbon emissions. By bolstering clean energy sources, it aligns with national objectives of increased energy independence and sustainability.

Legal and Administrative Support

To facilitate this joint venture, Sidley Austin LLP has been appointed as legal counsel for OCI Energy, while Norton Rose Fulbright provides legal support to Arava Power. Their involvement ensures the transaction is compliant with applicable regulations and conditions, protecting the interests of both parties throughout the process.
